Hello to everyone from Spencer C

I really appreciate all the people who put 3D models out there for free - some are amazing detailed, and it's genuinely generous to give them to fellow 3D artists when they could easily sell them.

I find them essential for making anything, as I often don't have any money left after paying for internet access, and building models takes me simply forever.

After a 6-hour-plus search of free 3D sites, I still couldn't find a batch of aircraft and vehicles I'm looking for - early WWII French, British and German ones. If anyone knows where I can find then (for free), I would be really appreciative (and I'll list you on the credits of whatever I use them in).

(Just about any format is OK, except Cinema 4D or Maya.)

Here's what I need:

French aircraft:

Amiot 143

Amiot 350 (any of that series - the 354 particularly)

Breguet Bre.690 (any of that series)

Bloch MB. 131

Bloch 174

Breguet 19

Dewoitine D.502

Farman 222

Liore et Olivier LeO 451

Morane-Saulnier MS. 225

Morane-Saulnier MS.406

Mureaux 113

Potez 63.11

Curtiss Hawk 75 (I know it's American built, but the French used it)

With the French vehicles, I'm less choosey and are just looking for any of their early-war medium/heavy tanks, and at least one of their trucks (any assorted vehicles like staff cars, infantry carriers, armoured cars, etc. would be good too). In addition, I'm looking for a light anti-aircraft gun and a heavy one, and one of their AT guns.

British aircraft:

Armstrong Whitworth Whitley

Avro Manchester

Avro Anson

Bristol Blenheim

Bristol Beaufighter

Bristol Beaufort

Fairey Battle

Fairey Swordfish

       Halifax

Handley-Page Heyford

Handley Page H.P.52 Hampden/H.P.53 Hereford

Vickers Wellington (the one on Sketchup was too low resolution, and too many corners had been cut making it)

Westland Whirlwind

Boston Havoc, aka DB-7 (once again, I know it's US-built; but I'm looking for the earlier models used by the British)

With the British vehicles, I'm looking for a heavy tank (a Matilda I or II) and a light tank (a Mk VIC, Mk VIB, or Cruiser tank) as well as some truck(s) and some assorted vehicles (I've already got lemonsong's Bren carrier, but what I've seen of it looks a bit chunky) - most particulary an armoured car.

Likewise, I'm looking for a light anti-aircraft gun and a heavy one, and a 2 pounder AT gun.

German planes:

Ar 68 (a biplane)

Bf 110

Do 17

Ju-88 (the Sketchup one is too poor)

He 100

Henschel Hs 123

Henschel Hs 126

And a big WWI German bomber, like a Gotha, would be really useful too.

With the German vehicles, I'm looking for a PzKpFw I (though if you know of any other aircraft/vehicle models of this period I'd love to know anyway). Also I'm looking for one of their light anti-aircraft guns, and a light AT guns.

Quite a wish list, I must say. Thanks ahead of time for any help with it. And thanks for all the free 3D models.

Thats quite a wish list you have there! What level of detail are you looking for? Textured or untextured, rigged or object only etc... A little more specific would help. I would doubt though that you would find a highly detailed model for free (with the exception of Bazze's stuff - www.colacola.se)simply because of the amount of work that goes into them. That said though, I am in the middle of doing a Lancaster so when its finished, it shouldn't be too big a leap for the Manchester. The hard part is finding good quality Blueprints for the old stuff to work from. Good luck with the search..

Pardon me, I got wrapped up in the search so much I didn't specify.

What I'm looking for in the planes etc, is at least medium quality - ie they don't become chunky and square-ish looking until you're nearly looking over the tail. Rigging, separate control surfaces, etc. are not necessary . Simple .obj and .3ds models are fine. Textures aren't necessary either.

Thanks for the link,

Touchwood is correct, military freebies are rather hard to find. George (zippy?) has a nice wrecked building - kinda like the old airfix one. You could try using ones from a flight simulator - but the poly count and detail will be very low, plus you'll need to re-texture.

Which really leaves you with commerical stuff.

Apart from the 'squid - where I also see your post (good idea) -theres a few bits here, AH3D's stuff is nice. Poserworld has a reasonable lanc if you're a member there. Bazze has given away a few free planes, Spit, 109, and theres a free spit at possetteforever if you can get past their bizzare signup process.

Poserworks has a P40 warhawk and other WW2 planes - average prices around $35.  DeEspona is about the only person who's made a large military collection - max format - and Vanishing Point is carefully converting them to Poser.

Waves at Touchwood - we last meet at the Imperial War Museum :)

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

I agree, finding free medium/high quality military models are hard to find, especially early WW2 aircraft and AFVs. The only problem is I don't think there is the market for the early aircraft as there is for the more popular ME109, ME262, etc.

If you are looking for aircraft,  MrsSparky is correct, DeEspona probably has the best collection, just in the wrong format (for now...I'm waiting for the time when they convert the collection to poser format myself)

I did find a Pz I at gunpoint-3D, but it was $35.00.  They have other models, which I would consider getting (the Strummorser Tiger).

Perhaps you can sweet-talk someone to do one for you, and then if they have a wishlist, buy them something from that for them.  I did it for those that created some hair textures for me :)

Perhaps you can sweet-talk someone to do one for you,
yep - that can work - other ways of getting free things...

Offering to be a beta tester - though you need do a small level of technical skill and the right software to test things on.

Create some free (or for sale) textures for existing products and freebies.
You will often work with modellers in this way - thats how VP started.

Make some artwork for the modeller, either in the gallerys or for product promotional images. [Nice bonus there is you get the model before anyone else does  :)]

Just remember the style and context if doing this, for historical stuff Bazze style quality images will get you lots of free products, and loads of friends. If you like to show a bit of female skin - look at the way Panos works.  However you think V3's in cheetah skins wearing nothing but berets are historically valid, that will get you b*gger all :)

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.
