Iwas trying to get some more shots for my series of 'life of a lotus blossom'--VERY windy, so tough to get shot, but the lotus doesn't give a hoot and goes on with its life LOL,--so there I was. Noticed a dragonfly getting ready to light on another lotus bud. Had very little time to compose--and def. no time to focus as it was off in a sec--wind whipped it right off that blossom. I was in the right place at right time and clicked that button at the right time, since there's a bit of lag on digital cameras. However, I had it in manual focus, manual op, so the lag is much less. I just saw a fantastic macro of a red dragonfly in another forum (well, he's a pro with a digital SLR, but still....) and it puts this to shame, but I thought I'd share it anyhow. f/2.00 1/125 sec. FL 21 mm Canon G1

It IS a lucky shot. Guess how many miles I have run after those guys, with camera in my hand. Neat pic. I esp. dig that edge between flower and background. .n

I know Antoonio--I've sat by my pond for ages waiting with the focus and exposure set--and nothing. They all light on other plants and just when you give up and start to move--there one comes. There is one I call a 'helicopter dragonfly' because it is huge, its wings have black horizontal stripes, so in flight it looks like a helicopter. i really really want to get a photo of that guy LOL.

...maybe we should try like Syyd, butt the poor thing to death and take a pic then. (Syyd actually have killed one of those guys with his forehead) ;oD .n

Shhhh--Antoonio--Syyd is a 'she' and Colm is the he of the pair S. But--I didn't KNOW she killed one with her forehead. Poor both of them.

Damn nice shot man. Someone commented on the background complementing the foreground due to focus. What I'd like to wonder is what if you had the back ground in total focus, while the flower and the dragon fly were completely out of focus...? I like doing that kinda stuff personally, seemingly ruining otherwise great shots with experimentation, but hey, you never know what you'll end up with. Good work man, Ry
