Hey Arien, I'm hoping to finish it over next three weeks, maybe four (I hope not that long)... but I don't dare to commit to a date.   -especially the way RL things have been going.

Nice one Connie.

Looking forward to putting it through it's paces!

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Wed, 21 May 2008 at 10:01 PM

After this test rig, I'm going to turn it all to Randy for final rigging, getting JCM's to work right and any other rigging details. While he's doing that I can do some textures. That'll speed things up by at least a week :)
So, maybe in a week or so we'll be ready for a beta run.

Update:

The geometry/base objects and most of the morphs are in Randy's capable hands for rigging.
I'm making few last minute fitting morphs.

Repair/construction at the house starts Wednsday next week and will go on for two weeks.
The good news is they will be able to tile the office/den floor too.
The bad news is that that room too will have to be cleared out.

This means that there is a very good chance I'll be off line and away from the computer for that time - unless my laptop can catch a local wireless connection on occasion. I definately won't have access to my workhorse computers.

That means I probably won't get to start on the textures till after the construction is done :(

This is coming along brilliantly :D The posed pics look wicked!

Connie I really admire that even though you're having a run of awful luck right now you are still continuing with this and even taking the time to update us all etc! .... This is the type of thing that seperates the great content creators from the rest!

Like Stormchaser said, maybe take an (enforced lol) break and then come back well rested and on full throttle ;)

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!!!!  It's really appreciated on this end.

Here's another semi-interesting WIP. While Randy is rigging, I'm playing with Zbrush, just quickly adding some zigzag stitching bump that the original outfit has. Lot more to come.
Click on it to see ful size, makes the stitching look much better :)

I dop have AO turned on in the render... but not sure why it's not rendering with AO. Something's goofy.  Anyway, little more transparent sleeves. You can start seeing through the sleeves how close to the body they are modelled. Pretty close to the real thing. This way  you can try to minimizethe jellyfish look of clothing being unrealistically far away from the body- in transparent and translucent pieces.

I haven't made a squish-uppage morph yet. As long as she keeeps her arms up in the air on test renders, she doesn't need one yet

vincebagna ( ) posted Sun, 25 May 2008 at 3:48 AM

Those zigzag things can be turned into a disp map with ZBrush, right?

About the AO, i personally encounter this problem with tranparence. When you have a transparency applied to something, AO won't display because of a Poser bug :( And there is no workaround (dito BB) :(((

God, I love the new screenies Connie!
Firstly, the stitching you did in ZBrush is brilliant, so glad you're putting this detail into it.
I have ZBrush at the moment so I'm just figuring out what's what, it's a great program.

The transparent sleeves really give the outfit that magic touch. Will you be making stocking like textures for her sleeves?

oro_snake ( ) posted Sun, 25 May 2008 at 6:44 AM

The stitching details are absolutely fantastic Connie! And so is the whole outfit itself! :)

Bummer. I was semi-aware of the bug having to do that with transmaps. I thought it would affect just the material with transmap on it, but it appears to affect the whole scene. I think it's the hair. Looks like any time you add hair to the scene, the AO will go away. So if you want AO, you have to render things separately.

What a major disappointing PITA!

Thanks everyone for looking at the piccies and commenting and encouragement :)

I like to make detailed textures too :)   I just discovered that if I scan some of my old competition swimsuits and their stitching, they look a lot like neoprene parts of the outfit - YAY!

The zigzargs are a displacement map from Z. In poser, sometimes I plug those into a bump channel, sometimes into a displacement channel. Just depends on which look I like better, and how it fits with the rest of the material components.

It sounds strange to me that adding hair will turn the AO off Oo
I already used this hair in some scenes with AO without any problem.

I was just guessing, based on overhearing that adding transmaps will goof up AO. I suppose it's transparency too.  Like I said, I only paid minimum attention to those discussions, so I remember it totally backwards :)

I'll try to do a render with non-transparent sleeves, see if my AO comes back!

In case it's the update on the outfit you guys want. Randy is working on the Rigging, body morphs and JCM's.

By the end of tomorrow my home office will be all packed up, so for next couple of weeks my internet access will be very sporadic.

Before you do any JCMs, be sure to see whether you need any in the first place - conform the clothing to a V4 and run the "Magnetize Clothing" pose, and check all poses.  the real troublesome areas for me are collar up/down (breast movement) and the way the buttock flexes (thigh bend).

Those tend to give me the most trouble too, and they're even more trouble with special morphs like GND4.

Does that go on your CV?

Looking forward to seeing some of those textures. How many texture sets will be shipping with the outfit?

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Fri, 30 May 2008 at 12:06 PM

CV, what's a CV?

I don't know how many texture sets we'll have. I can never do just one. Minimum two.
The wizard robe shipped with 4 IIRC (maybe 3). I had about 10 of them made total, but three or four was all that would fit in rendo's 70 Meg file limit.

Wizard robe, for example has the rest of the textures coming in an expansion pack. I dunno how many total, I lost track. Between 5 and 10. Speaking of which, I have to finish that project.

I have a sneaky suspicion this outfit may happen the same way.

I invested in Filter forge texture maker few moths ago, and also Genetica .... and YAY, they accepted me to do beta testing on the newest version of Genetica http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/   So will definately be playing and going hog wild with textures.

It needs a modern texture, a romantic one, a sexy one, fantasy one, something funky... I dunno what else, I'm open to ideas and brainstorms.

a CV is a curriculum vitae.  if you're not familiar with the term (though i bet you are), it's sort of like a resume, but much longer and should cover pretty much everything you've done.  it's kind of an academic thing.

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Fri, 30 May 2008 at 4:12 PM

Thanks Cobaltdream :)   I haven't heard that phrase used around here (where I live) in a while.
One would think that business environment in southern California uses more scholastic terms, and more often, but they don't. At least in the engineering circles that I tend to be in touch with.
