Subject: Damn Poser 4 interface I cant believe this...

InBlack ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 1:37 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 2:35 PM

I opened up poser this morning and my document window is on the upper left of my screen. I cant figure out a way to get it to the middle where it belongs, I even tried going to a higher resolution (which works temporarily)and moving it but when I return to 1024x768 its in the upper left corner again. Loading the factory state for the interface/document doesnt work either. What the hell? Goddamnit this is the third time this has happened, and I've heard it happen to other people as well. Instead of planning complex software protection schemes curious labs should get their asses working on bugs like this that have plagued Poser from the start. Seeing as I cant run my computer in 1280x1024 resolution permanently, (unless someone knows a solution to this bug) I guess I'm going to have to reinstall Poser AGAIN.

On the lower right hand side you have these little dots called pose dots , it also has camera dots and UI dots. After you set your workspace up you can click a UI dot , this will put that set up in memory , then when you have this problem , all you have to do is click that dot that you saved, it will bring your workspace back to the way you like it. I am so happy since I figured this out , cause I too got really upset when poser did that to me, but sometimes the cure is right there and we just have to be lead to it :-) Hope this helps :-)

Thats not really a solution, considering that I dont have any UI dots set. Having to Pre-set UI dots so that 'just in case my program screws up I can restore it' requires that you predict the program is going to screw up like this.

ohhh, well since you said you could temporarily fix it in a higher resolution, I assumed you could set the dots then , maybe someone else will have a better solution :-) Good luck (always assume the worse);-)

One of my friends is e-mailing me a UI dot right now :) This is #&%$& rediculous, didnt they beta test this goddamn program? Havent the countless posts on this same bug urged them to include it in one of their patches? Thanks for the help man, hopefully itll work.

heh, yeah thats what mine did , glad you found you a dot , I hadnt thought to offer one , maybe you could email support or one of the other branches at CL to see if they would add it to the buglist, I doubt that every problem that goes on here gets noticed or brung to their attention. And using the dot will also help when you boot poser and have no workspace at all , that seems to be my latest bug. Glad youre getting it fixed :-)

You can go to preferences and ask it to open up next time in Factory state or something to that effect. This will restore the default Poser interface (yes, Dork included) and then after you rearrange it you can save your preferences again.

InBlack ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 6:00 PM

I tried that, its in my first post. It didnt work at all, the dork would be loaded in the upper left corner.

heyas; there's a bug in poser where it won't remember your screen layout, that has to do with the stupid poser shortcut in windoze. delete the shortcut and re-create it, and it SHOULD work okay. (if this is that problem.) if you're on a mac, i have no idea what the problem is. :) wait, is this pro pack? that background wireframe isn't in poser 4. :/ i dunno what it is, then. maybe poser's trying to load a 4 window view??

wyrwulf ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 6:37 PM

That's the pro pack, bloodsong. The tabs at the top give it away. Try CuriousLabs with your question, InBlack. They are pretty good at helping out.

Huolong ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 6:45 PM

I had this problem not long ago. Curious Labs provided the answer that worked: "Type on the keyboard "PO2" and after the interface reverts to the P2 interface, type "PO3" to return.........you may have to delete your Poser4/Runtime/prefs/poser.ini" This is assuming that you have ProPack installed. I also had some luck in clicking on the Setup tab and back again. See thread on "Spiderman"

This is what happened to me when I insalled the 4.0.3 update. I ended up uninstalling everything and reinstalling Poser, then I copied the preferredstate.pz3 file from Prefs folder somewhere temporarily. After installing the update again, I just replaced the preferredstate.pz3 file in Prefs from the old version and everything has remained in place since. Give that a try. Melanie

keep a backup of preferredstate.pz3 !!! i know this doesn't save everything, but it sure helps me most times :)

InBlack: calm down! I know how frustrating it can be: I had that same problem for months. But the UI dots really did cure it for me. Every so often it happens again, but I just click on the UI dot and all is well. Play around with it: I'm running Pro Pack too, and that fixed it for me.

RayZor ( ) posted Wed, 20 June 2001 at 5:51 AM

Yup, same problem same solution - just worked out that the UI dots are resolution specific so make sure you have a dot for the right resolution. If you don't let me know and I'll send you one.

melanie ( ) posted Wed, 20 June 2001 at 11:28 AM

The UI dots were only temporary for me. It still didn't fix the problem. I had to click the dot every time I opened Poser because it kept messing up. I didn't want to be bothered with that every time. Replacing the preferred state pz3 fixed it permanently so I didn't have to use the dot. It's never happened since. Melanie

Good old Metafu%#ations at work again! it's amazing how they turned great things into garbage and ripped off so many loyal customers, I being one of them.

melanie ( ) posted Thu, 21 June 2001 at 8:02 PM

Actually, it was fine while MetaCreations had it, but when I put in the Curious Labs update, that's when it messed up for me. Melanie
