Subject: How about an amapi forum, gallerie

dolly ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 7:17 AM · edited Sun, 17 November 2024 at 1:52 PM

Hey all I was just wondering can or would any body need or whant an amapi forum, galleri. As amapi can produce amazing models and also render them quite well. And there would be a place for much neede tutorials for it and that would be a great thing. Just a thought dolly

depakotez ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 10:49 AM

I have to agree with Dolly, me being an Amapi user myself. However I'm not sure how much demand there is for it here. WOuld like to see it though.

rcook ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 12:05 PM

If you can some enough support for it here, we'll be happy to create a forum and/or gallery for Amapi.

I think it would be a good thing. Marque

I have tried Amapi and did not get on with it. I found their interface confusing. But that said I would welcome a forum dedicated to this program. It may give me the opportunity to view the software in a fresh light.

I would also like to see a forum for it. I think since the free version was given away, there has been quite a lot of new modelers trying their hand at it (myself included). It would be nice to have a place to discuss issues and techniques and hopefully pull in a few 'pros' who use the program to help everyone out. I like it, but it is quite a bit different than the other modeling progs I have used.

rcook ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 1:15 PM

Ok, I see there is going to be enough support. I've added to my todo list to create an Amapi forum and gallery.

whhoohoo Thanks every one i think it will be great and thanks r.cook dolly

Thanks Russ, and those of you who showed your support on this idea. Tom

Everyone who is upgrading carrara will be a new amapi user. (Including myself ) Seems to make sense. ++++++++Deberus

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 2:47 PM

I guess I'm late, sorry. ;) Like probably 20,000 others I too jumped on the free version of Amapi from PC Format mag last year. The interface confuses the hell out of me, and there's very little along the lines of tutorials to be found, but I guess Amapi's plan was to hope people would upgrade, then everybody would have a manual.... But I think it'd be greeat to have an Amapi forum and a gallery. I bet there are alot of Amapi users out there who are still clueless. ;) Didn't the people who make Amapi buy Carrarra or something like that?

depakotez ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 3:05 PM

Yes they did, in fact if I read it correctly the new version of Carrarra will have Full Amapi V5 on the CD. And Carrarra becomes Carrarra Studio something or another. Not to sure as I didn't keep up with Carrarra, and probably still won't. But Mike, you'll be welcome in the new forum and be happy to help out one newbie to another. Tom

Well, I guess I'm a little late too, but I would love to have a place to ask questions about Amapi. I would use it more if I could figure it out. I know already that there are things you can do in Amapi that you can't in OpenFX. Rich

jnmoore ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 4:06 PM

Me too! Just got the free version and would love to have a place to askquestions of some of the "vets" out there. Jim

thip ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 4:15 PM

I use Amapi (the 4.15 version, I'm such a cheapo ;-) ) a lot, so any forum to exchange ideas in would be very welcome.

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 4:22 PM

4.1.5 Yep, that's me too! I have done a few things with it-- all experiments though and little more, but I have discovered a few things which suggest to me it may be more powerful of a modeler than it at first seems. For one thing it's the first freeware modeler I've seen that does 3D text based on installed fonts, and boolean functions. PC Format had a tutorial on making a teacup, and the Amapi folder has some html tutorials, but all I've seen seems to have huge gaps in it, info-wise. I would REALLY like to see an Amapi forum here. True many of us have multiple 3D programs to use, but it never hurts to bea bale to at least partially master all that we have. And Renderosity would have on more feather in it's cap to contribute to it's loooonnng list of credentials. :)

Amapi is indeed more powerful than it first seems. Started using it as a complement to TrueSpace, but I do more than half my modeling in Amapi now.

We would also like to lend our support for Amapi. We know from our experience in modeling there is never enough support for 3D modeling, and it would be so much more easier to have the ability to share our questions and answers with people who actually use the software, not just from a book that is supplied. Sorry we are late, just got the news, but our suggestion is that it would add a great deal to Rendersoity and all of it's members. Mike and Sharen

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 6:11 PM

That's pretty good there thip, really. You don't even want to see what I've not been able to do... ;) And hello, Mike and Sharen, nice that you could join us here. :)

depakotez ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 6:14 PM

Great job there Thip. And glad to see a good gang is gathering :) Actually more of us Amapins (or newbies as is my case) than I thought. Tom

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 6:21 PM

I would love to be able to actually learn Amapi. I've been using Rhino, and still learning it slowly, but Amapi is still just sitting there on my HD, all lonely-like. But unlike Strata 3D and a dozen other free programs, I haven't had the heart to uninstall it, because I just know it can be good. So, that's why we need an Amapi forum... so thip and dolly can tell us how it works. :)

SAMS3D ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 6:30 PM

We like to try all kinds of 3d modeling software, the sad thing is we are so use to Autocad it is hard to switch over to different software, but we have examinied Amapi, and although we are a little lost, those like dolly and thip can aid us in our new discoveries. Hi Mike, just like to keep informed and join in, and hopefully add to all whom has helped us in the past. Mike and Sharen

Thanks Russell, and thanks also to dolly for bringing it up in the first place. :) 3D letters made in Amapi (seemed appropriate somehow) with one of Varian's "Yes" fonts. Yes, as in the '70's art rock band featuring the inimitable Bill Bruford and Steve Howe, Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman..... Well, what can I say...3D fonts are the only thing I haven't been able to screw up in Amapi so far..... ;)

rcook ( ) posted Tue, 19 June 2001 at 7:48 PM

thanks Mike. :)

No fancy image but have to say a big thanks to Renderosity and especially Russ! Tom.

Hey all Well it looks like we got the forum, gallerie. Thankyou every one for the support on this issue and i hope, we can all learn how to use amapi properly and do great things with it cheers dolly

Well, I got here too late to lend my vote for Amapi -- but not too late to thank dolly and Russell. :))))
