Poser Technical F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 04 2:47 am)
Welcome to the Poser Technical Forum.
Where computer nerds can Pull out their slide rules and not get laughed at. Pocket protectors are not required. ;-)
This is the place you come to ask questions and share new ideas about using the internal file structure of Poser to push the program past it's normal limits.
New users are encouraged to read the FAQ sections here and on the Poser forum before asking questions.
That si what I have ended up doing now I am just trying to figure out how to get the hierarchy right.

One thing you should do is stick to the naming convention for left and right, so that symmetry functions will work. For one thing, this will cut your rigging time in half. ;) You can name the limbs whatever you want, but always prefix the left with an "l" and the right with an "r" as the Poser figures do (lThigh / rThigh, lShin / rShin etc.)
Agreeing with the responses so far, for the forelimbs use standard Poser arm names and for the aftlimbs use standard Poser leg names for body parts - that is 'internal names' - the ones after Actor in the CR2 not after 'name' within the Actor section (which is mainly irrelevant except to let users know what the body part represents).
Luckily for us, almost all fish, amphibians, reptiles, dinosaurids, and mammals have the same general body parts (with some additions or omissions from evolutionary processes). It's when you get into insects and arachnids that the fun really begins! ;)
C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the
foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg
off.

I have switched all groups to standard naming, except for the tail.

I am working on an animal and I am stuck at naming certain body parts when grouping. This I am stuck on the hind legs how to name them. I don't want to call the front legs arms. I am going to check some other Quadrupeds to see how the groups are named tonight but wanted to get some input before hand. To see a WIP you can visit my Gallery here.
Teyon thanks for letting me do this to your wonderful model. I do have an idea for the eyes but want to test a few things first.
