The scene is perfect and I couldn't throw away the opportunity to recreate it using Bryce.
In trying to make it look acurate, it started to cause a few headaches (out of memory) as I wanted to use 3D trees instead of 2D, so I found a compromise. The actual render time was reletively fast..... 35 minutes.

Well not a photo exactly but from a short story that I had written a while back when I was a wee pip of a lass on her own for the first time and was taking story writing course at a local community college on an isle located in the Gulf of Mexico...south of Houston....

It's a short story based on my imagination that I thought would not come true in my family. (has to do with my mother)

Rendering it now : it's a 16 hours render. :b_sad:

I like them both....the photo has a dreamy, long gone old time feel to it and your render has the same feel as a watercolor. I also like that you didn't try to steal the photos outstanding qualities by trying to reproduce them exactly, but chose to be inspired by the photo while still going in your own direction....really nicely done, both!

Would have loved to have added a few little road edge puddles but on trying to reload the (rendered) scene found it to be of the 1.9gb guys and so wouldn't reload... just as well I completed it in one sitting LOL. I do however have a slightly earlier save without the background (mist enveloped) trees.

I think if I go a little further with the scene, I might render all the large objects first, i.e. the trees for instance with same lighting/ambience, and then reload them into the scene as 2D instead. That way I can add some puddles and even more detail.

If I do this, I might try a different sky.

That would be great. You can call me SndCastle just had to use the I as when I first got on the Internet as SndCastle was taken so have just used it where ever I am LOL

Hope you like it! The short story was done from memory so it may not have the same impact as when I first wrote it. The short story starts out by describing the subtle chaos of the living room and dust settling on the yellowing newspapers strewn about the living room and ends with the ringing of the doorbell and her going off (in her mind) with Paul, her suitor in army dress uniform on his final date.

Something for the twilight zone, eh???

That photo showed the interior of an abandoned hospital upstate NY. It was a series of photos taken as a photo essay. I just wished I had bookmarked the site as I was very intrigued by those photos. :crying:

Yes, I remember seeing that photo ThunderStone. You made a decent job with the render I see.

If you don't mind me saying, I would have taken down the ambient light a little..... or disabled the sunlight if you hadn't done that and then use a light source that only just illuminates part of the room, just to give a little more focus on the chair. :-)

Anyone else inspired by anothers work and just had to create something?

Well, my entry to the architecture challenge is based on a photo. I think it´s a good method to practice in bryce. I have made some other images also based in pictures or photographs, for example, my first post at renderosity which was based on a photo that I took of a square near my son´s school (OMG I have seen that it was 5 years ago) :scared:

I would like to see the photo that inspired your 'Plaza de Los Patos' scene if thats possible.

If I ever get the opportunity to choose a challenge topic, I think it would be ones interpretation of another artists work. It's fascinating how different artists will see any given scene or subject.

Excellent, your impression of it wasn't too far away, I think you captured it well. I especially think you had done a great job with the trees, I know just how difficult it is to get them to look 'non' Bryce LOL.

Not a mirror image, but then that wasn't what I was after.

That is actually not bad at all. You have managed to reserve the shape of the scene without directly copying it.
