Subject: first vue product at daz

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 23 June 2008 at 4:32 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 6:44 AM

 and Ijust bought it.  I don't even really need it and it's overpriced, but I bought it anyway, as it is sooo good to see daz with a vue product.  Gives me hope that one day daz studio will import into vue, at which stage I will probably switch from poser to daz studio.

Well, you can always save your scene out as .obj then it w ill import into Vue perfectly.

Yeah, it works quite well.When i had a lower end machine this is the method i used due to the wayt Vue handles the import process. you know how it is with the large ass Poser textures that everyone finds necessary to use and Vue so desperately despises... Well, this helped me out a bit with memory issues. Hope it works for you to(;

 well I will make a dazstudio scene as soon as I figure out how to add all my poser content. I have a mac, and it is not as straightforward as it seems.  maybe the beta dazstudio is buggy?

If i remember correctly it will ask you when you install it to look for content it can use ie: Runtime folders.

 Yep but it has an option to chose which disks I want it to look in and nothing I can do can select disks on this option.
Well I have picked a few folders and I will see if it will search those.
thanks.

Not quite the first really - Stonemason has included Vue versions with at least one of his models but good to see anyway.

 Yep, especially is it is totally a vue product, not even for dazstudio or for poser.  So Ihope lots of people will support it.  I snapped it up straight away, just to help show daz that people like vue stuff.

 I wouldn't necessarily get a vue version of a stonemason scene (because we can import that from poser) unless it had lights in it for night time renders, as I have found it quite hard to light a stonemason scene in vue.

Yeah, I would LOVE to see Poser light support in Vue, or see how people wanna set them up for there products..that would indeed rock.

Actually, I think the Vue version of Stonemasons Mediterranean streets is better than the imported Poser one.  The textures seem a lot crisper somehow

Vue gives you the option of using material layers based on many parameters.  Any models texture can be greatly tweaked within Vue to produce a very realistic render.  VOBs can use the basic objs texture with many material layers to produce amazing effects, in this way VOB objects are a bit different from there basic counterparts and most modelers creating for multiple aps tend to take advantage of the unique abilities offered by Vue's VOB format.

Imported Poser stuff sucks, until you tweak it! ;)

Great that they are selling Vue stuff :)

if your rendering a stonemason set in Vue then I'd recommend using the Vue version..I've optimised materials so they look good in Vue (no matter what options you select Poser materials look like crap in Vue without some tweaking)& also adjusted smoothing angles on all parts,because I do large sets & often have over a hundred materials & parts I'd think getting the Vue version would save some time in setting up.

Yeah, and Stonemason has some really nice stuff. And most of us own just about all of it and w ould find it a burden to have to REBUY it all (;

I love this new trend of having Vue vobs included with Poser items.  Sure is a time saver.    Hope more and more vendors will start doing it.

stonemason, I would happily pay again for Vue versions of your Poser sets that I already have, however I wonder if DAZ would be willing to revisit existing products, with Vue compatibility updates, or perhaps sell separate .vob files as "updates" or "companion files" to customers who have already invested in the Poser versions?  Until finding this thread I had no idea that the Mediterranean set came with a .vob file. I'll surely purchase it now. I should probably be sending this sentiment to DAZ but thought I'd mention it here in case you're still reading this thread.

I've had good luck importing stonemason sets into Vue, although I strongly agree that adding material layers and tweaking various settings improves the way the models render a lot. Still, there are occasions when well-employed bitmap textures look better than procedurals (hopefully not too heretical a view, here.) Because of the high quality of the bitmaps on stonemason sets, I don't think they really look bad at all when first imported. As an example, the quickie test render attached features no tweaking of the stonemason set at all, only IBL/AO settings to enhance verisimilitude. (Yes, I know the background buildings don't match well.)  :-)

Anyway, although Cornucopia is terrific and 3D Commune has some great stuff, more Vue products at more vendor sites couldn't possibly be a bad thing!

updating my catalogue would take some time as there's over 80 models..not something I see myself doing anytime soon but you can be assured my future releases will included a Vue version(alongside Poser,D|S & Carrara versions)..these are offered at no extra cost.
it's taken some time for me to twist DAZ' arm into letting us sell Vue versions but they finaly relented :)
hope it saves you all some time in importing DAZ content to Vue

as for updating other DAZ content for Vue you'd probably need to run that by DAZ.

I love the idea, I have a lot of models that I made just for Vue because of the material settings, etc.  They just don't look that good in Poser no matter what I try.  I may actually be able to move some of these things now LOL.

Since Vue competes with Bryce directly, I'm surprised that they agreed!

It is very kind of you Stefan to include the Vue-version of  your Med streets!

I did some testrenders, Poser-import, DAZ (.obj)import, vob. file and there is a (big) difference!

As a matter of fact, I always tweak surfaces, in D|S I add always PWsurfaces and if it's only for the AO, in Vue I tweak a bit the bump and Highlight-settings, just to fit my personal taste.

As for Vue being in direct competition with Bryce...

I own as well Bryce, but the day I could grab Vue 6 Esprit,I uninstalled Bryce.  It's that interface (the same as Poser, or nearly) it feels like typing a letter with boxong gloves on your hands. So I guess the people over at DAZ  will know that more and more people will use Vue, so, why not taking the money  from them as well?

Yeah, unfortunately the legacy Kai Krause UI is the least "intuitive" I've ever seen in just about any app, 3D or otherwise. The pared-down version in Poser is tolerable, as there are easily substituted alternatives at hand, but for what holding power GUI is worth, Bryce's can't really hold a candle to the efficiency, logic and easy learning curve that Vue's offers.

Thanks Stefan. Bad smoothing can ruin an otherwise great scene. For those interested in the why and how of smooting issues in Vue, you can check out this explanation.
