Subject: Doing Something Different

Jonj1611 ( ) posted Tue, 01 July 2008 at 7:24 AM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 9:39 AM

Hi,

I love making wonderful scenes in Vue, and enjoy watching other peoples work, but lately I have been trying to use Vue for something a bit different, something away from the normal land/seascape render.

So, I have been playing with Realflow, not natively there is no support from Next Limit for Vue, no plugins(as yet), so I had to use a work around and used Mark Caldwells object import sequence script, due to Realflow creating some quite large meshes, you are sometimes limited to what you can actually achieve, but I have done many renders so far, but just wanted to show you one, everything is rendered in Vue, but all the meshes are from Realflow, anyway, hope you enjoy, though be quick its quite a fast clip lol :)

I placed it on YouTube, link below or you can download from my site which is the original render and better quality, its compressed with Divx, if you download from my link :-

Nice work. Very  short of course, but quite nice(;

What program did you use to build the mesh ?

Interesting.  I have a freebie copy of realflow somewhere that came on a 3D world CD.  I might have a play with it I think

Thanks for the comments :) Realflow is quite fun when you get into it

Trepz, Realflow created the particle system and it also created the mesh, you can output each step as an .obj for import into whatever program you like.

FrankT, thats what I use 3DWorld mag version, it is limited to 50,000 particles but what they don't tell you is that each emitter can do 50,000 particles so you can create scenes with multiple emitters each putting out 50,000 particles, either way 50,000 is quite high, the particles used in that number 6 was about 8,000 I think.

And yep it is short, I wanted to get a WIP up and will get onto doing something a bit more creative and higher quality soon, it was only done at that resolution to keep file sizes down etc.

so you put the output into a number 6 shaped triangulated mesh? or you can make RF do that kinda thing?

Sorry, have had RF for about 2+ years, opened it twice:P

Ok, heres what I did, and you can use any program for this part, but I used Vue, anyway, used the text editor in vue to create the number 6, I then exported it in .3ds format.

In Realflow, I imported the object, stuck an emitter inside it and built the mesh(sounds more complicated than it is, its one button push), and then run the simulation, that created the object mesh and output in .obj format, all of it was done in Realflow.

I then used the object sequence import script and import the meshes, its a little bit choppy to be fair but it does work to a point and thats about it. Set my materials and rendered.

Because of the way the import script works it is difficult to import the original object I used and see it fill up, the import script works more like a flip book, replacing one object with another etc.

I am rendering another scene right now, which shows water falling and going over a cylinder, the cylinder is not currently shown and I am working on that, but like most WIP's, its a little bit at a time.

OK, makes perfect sence to me now. I thought you meant to made RF flow into a 6 pattern...thats why i questioned your "geniousness" to get it to do that :D

Lol, I guess you could do it with attractors and other crazy realflow daemons but no, not me, not this time lol.

I love realflow, its create to play around with, unfortunately the plugins for it are only for programs like 3D Max, Cinema 4d, Maya etc, I believe Forester is working on some kind of Realflow > Vue plug/script.

For the moment, I wanted to use Vue for something different and at least I can render things now from Realflow even if it is a clunky process along the way its better than nothing :)

I have had a mesh imported into Cinema and saved out as .obj to bring into Vue a couple times, all two times i played with it:P I love RF 4 as it builds the meshes for you and such. A really easy program for what it does.

And if anyone can build a script or have one made it would be Pam, she kicks ass with RF

And another example, water hitting invisible cylinder thing.

I like the other one better, but this isnt a beauty contest:D Are you using wet maps and does whateevr you doing to it support the RF wetmaps?

Realflow 4, is literally creating a fluid mesh, the mesh is then output in .obj format, imported to Vue and then you can add any Vue shader to it just like a standard object.

If you guys want to get into Realflow, just give me a whistle. I think I could help anyone learn how to use it. At the moment,  I haven't got time to make any tutorials. But I can answer any questions, or help anyone figure out how to do something, .... I think.

Thank you Mark :)

I have done a few more, just trying to do something a bit more advanced at the moment and playing around with things, also doing renders that are longer.

When I have something a bit more creative, I will get it uploaded :)
