Subject: UV and Modeling problem. Can anyone help?

SEspider ( ) posted Mon, 07 July 2008 at 7:45 PM · edited Thu, 01 August 2024 at 9:20 PM

Okay, here's the deal. Over a year ago, I created and modeled a character/mascot for my little graphics company. I used the same method I use today which is arranging and connecting Verts to form Faces, and edges. All has been good since because I never knew how to texture it. Now I do So I opened the Original file and got to Edit Mode (2.46) to select the edges for un-wrapping. But now the model looks different in Edit mode and I can not select the edges and such for unwrapping. So I close the program and try it in 2.45 but got the same problem. Trying to stay calm, I go back to the 2.44 version in which I made the model. Same Problem!!

And now I'm here asking for help. Does anyone know how to fix this? You can see the problem in the image below. I NEED this fixed. I have to make a Video intro for my company and using the core materials, it'll take at least a month to render!!

HELP! PLEASE!?

Mesh Error

As you can see, the mesh is hovering over the model. What you don't see is that it does not allow me to add Seams. I can still unwrap it, but it's a un-usable mess when I do. :(

Thanks in advance,
-Richard

Looks like the subsurf modifier has not been applied. Go into OBJECT MODE then click APPLY under the modifier tab in the buttons menu.

This should sort out the problem, if it does not PM me and we'll go from there. 👍

HOLY COW! That Worked! Thanks.

Now there's just one more small problem. Doing that caused the Armeture to stop working. :(

Nevermind, I've figured it out. Some how a SubSurf got applied to the meshes. I honestly don't remember nor understand why I did that.

As for the Armature not working, I think that happened because I (at one point) placed it on a seperate layer for a short while to make minor changes.

Thankfuly I still have a copy of the original all on one layer. I've just back tracked to that and removed the Subsurfs and all seems okay again. ^_^

Thanks for taking the time to help. I'm sure someone else will run into this again at some point.

Oh boy.

Now that the meshes are all on one layer, the Armature is working, and the Verts are like they should in Edit mode, all is okay; right?

Wrong.

I've tried and tried and I STILL can't select the Seams. I've clicked the "Draw Seams" Button and all but no luck. Am I missing something? :(

u know that you can toggle on editing per object? In the outliner window right next to the name are 3 icons an eye an arrow and a pic , U can toggle visability, edabillity and rendering here.

for some free stuff i made
and for almost daily fotos

Thanks for the info. Unfortaintly, that little info kindda went over my head. So I'll have to sit down and play with it.

Back to the Seaming problem. I accidently found a way around it. I litterallystarted pushing multible keys on the keyboard b/c I was getting fustrated with the problems. Doing so brought u a window (after an edge was already selected) that allowed me to "Make Seam" and such. Took a while but I eventually re-created the action and learned how to do it.
In 2.46 it's 'Ctrl + E' to bring up the menu. But I only have to use that method with this model. Other models all I have to do is "Ctrl + Right-click." It's odd, but hey, whatever works.

Now I just need to learn where to cut the model. lol Thanks for all the help guys. Hope this thread helps others as well. ;)
