Subject: product problems in DAZ

maki_82 ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2008 at 9:12 PM · edited Fri, 31 January 2025 at 1:56 PM

So I recently bought Billy-t's Red Sandal Set for V3 and others like A3 and SP3...
It seems it won't work. When I try to load the V3 set, it searches for the obj. file and tries to get me to find it. The directory looks empty. So, I manually type in the obj. name and it finds it but the sandals load white and do not conform to V3. The sandals work with the other models its made for in DAZ! According to user reviews, this set works fine in DAZ but have any other of you DAZ users had these issues? I have contacted Billy-t with no success. Thanks

I wish I could help, but I dont have this set. I've used other Billy T items in Daz Studio, so that shouldn't be the issue especially if the other character items work.
Not trying to speak to the obvious here, but these are a couple of things I would try..

  1. make sure you are using V3 and not another Victoria
  2. zero the V3 figure pose OR make sure she hasn't been moved before adding the shoes, depends on which one you've been doing  before, lol.
3 select V3 and go to "conform to" and select V3
  3. If all else fails, redownload and reinstall, maybe something got corrupted along the way.

the textures should be loaded from the pose folder, I think, or whatever folder that holds the material for the folders, I've got my runtimes set up weird, so yours may be different, lol.

maybe one of these will be of some help.

**just went and read the "readme" for that item, so another bit of advice, you might also want to make sure you are choosing V3 object and not one for another girl :) since they each seem to have their own set of shoe geometry

Thanks Cim! :)
Unfortunately, I have tried all the above and I am completely positive I am selecting the right model. It'd be easier if it were a matter of them not fitting right but in this case, it's as if the whole v3 file doesn't exist for them and so I think they are corrupted. But I will keep trying. Thanks for the advice!

Hello there,

I have just tried this in Poser, and the V3 shoes load for me {I don't have Daz installed atm} but I will try and get a hold of BillyT for you and direct him to this thread so he can possibly help.

What version of DAZ|studio do you use? I had the same problem with 2.2.2.15, but it was solved wit 2.2.2.17( beta)

The CR2 files for this are, well wrong.  They have an extra colon in the OBJ specification lines which causes Studio to not find them (Poser just ignores it).  They also have incomplete paths for the textures, which causes Studio no end of fits.

If you were handy with a text editor you could fix these yourself.  Open each of the CR2 files and look for the line that specifies the OBJ file.  It would look something like this:

figureResFile :Runtime:Geometries:BillyClothing:Shoes:RedSandal:V3_Red_7Spike.obj:

See that extra colon on the end, that's wrong.  Remove the colon, leave the rest.  Remember there are TWO copies of the obj line in every CR2 file.

To fix the texture reference problems, use a search and replace tool and replace

:BillyT:Shoes:Sandal:
:BillyT:Reflection:

With

:Runtime:textures:BillyT:Shoes:Sandal:
:Runtime:textures:BillyT:Reflection:

On all the CR2 files.

In fact you might be able to use a search and replace tool to replace any occurance of .obj: with just .obj  I like a free tool called "BK ReplaceEm" but it's kind of aimed at geeky people.  I didn't bother looking at the MAT files for these, I'd bet they are wrong too.

Or you could sumit a ticket to Daz support.  But the odds of you getting a fix that way is pretty close to near zero.  In general I don't waste my time telling Daz their products have defects, I fix what I can and just get on with my life.
