Subject: World Builder?

What is the highly priced World Builder in the store good for? What are the tradeoff? And, how does it work with Poser? The hype on their site is silent on this subject.

According to their website, it supports obj files but does not say whether it can import or export them although I assume it can import obj files from Poser. Frankly, Vue d'Esprit 4.0 looks like a better package with its ability to import Poser scenes directly. Neither one is available yet for Mac OS X although Vue for OS X will be released at the end of the year. There are no announcements with regard to WB for OS X.

The images shown in the store and on their site are impressive, but useless unless we can take stuff from Poser and use it as is suggested that the new Vue will handle or that Poser and TrueSpace already handle already. To ignore providing us with said information is either poor marketing or arrogance or both.

We *do* have a World Builder forum on this site. That would be a more appropriate place for these questions. :)

Maybe, but it is an outrageously cool package. I've seen animations built with this thing, and they're breathtaking, especially the babbling brook anim, if I had a real use for it, (other than as a toy :) I'd certianly buy it, it does "drag and drop" scenery, you can actually download a demo of somebody doing just that from thier site, it's about 25Mb but worth it if you're condidering a purchase and want to know what the interface looks like. But, no, I'm not connected with the company in any way, just a humble poser bum :) later jb

I have used World Builder 2.2 and it is nothing less then awesome. I have tried to import obj files exported by Poser4, and have had about the same success I have had importing them to Bryce4, which isn't that good. Of course, I am no expert at any of this either. As for AWB2.2, the animations you can make can have things like individual blades of grass blowing in the wind, clouds moving across the sky, rivers flowing around rocks, and waves crashing on the shore. I only got to play with it for several hours, but what I produced in that time was unbelievable. I would like to buy version 3, but for a toy, it is sort of expensive. If you are a graphic artist by trade, you should try it out. I am sure you wouldn't regret it. I also do not work for them. My daughter goes to Kendall College of Art and Design and some of her friends use it.

Not to mention things like volumetric lighting, seeing an undersea anim, where the lighting works right on the sea/river bed is incredible. I actually had a look at it, and at $700 that's quite cheap, last time I asked, it cost $5K or thereabouts. Writen by Russians incidentally, smart cookies! :) later jb
