Subject: Hi guys, new here

jseber1982 ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2008 at 8:13 AM · edited Wed, 15 January 2025 at 2:00 AM

Just saying hi!! I am just now starting out in poser. I have been using vue for a few months now, and i figure it is time to start putting some figures in.

I see acadia's tutorials above to textures and materials, But do you have any poser basics tutorials? Just trying to navigate around was confusing me. And i also would like to create my own models, and not just make morphs to premade ones.

Also can you recommend any good models for me to download and start working on?

I do have vicky 4.2 from Daz, but i am unsure how to import it to poser.

I have tried daz, but for some reason it looks like it lacks a lot of stuff.

thanks!!
Justin

Baby steps, my freind.. baby steps.

Downloed a bunch of free content, learn how to use it, and THEN think about modeling and poserising your own stuff.. it take most peopel 2 years to get really good just using poser content, let alone making their own as well.

The poser backroom, Dr Geep's tutorials, and Daz's tutorial arcana will all kep yo ujust reading tutorials for weeks.

As far as good models, it really depends on what you are looking for? Dinosaurs, monsters, people, vehicles, buildings, whatever.

Most stuff at Daz is pretty high quality, and it's hard to go wrong there.. same with RDNA.

Content Paradise and Rendo are mixed bags, IMHO... as much crap as good stuff.

Also, check the poser free area here and at daz.. again, buttloads of free stuff to tinker with.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

thanks my friend.

Yea i got a bit over excited hehe.

But pretty much all daz content works in poser? Or do most models have the same file extensions?

I am interested in render people only right now

Gareee ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2008 at 9:04 AM

V 4.2 is one of the best female models out there, but is also one of the more complex ones to learn how to use properly.. you'll find tons of threads about using her in daz's various forums.

While it's a tad unclear now because of Daz Studio, Daz sells mostly poser content, and Daz Studio is their free application to allow people to test the waters using poser content.

So buying Daz's Poser/DS content is usually safe, they have a 30 day moneyback guarentee if you buy something that only works in ds (not much, mainly plugins), and thier platinum club gets you a bundle of goodies to play with, as well as some great ongoing  deals.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Welcome to Poser!

Acadia has a link for all Poser newcomers. I thought it was a sticky here but it seems it ain't. Some kind soul will post a link, if not the great woman herself will.

Ask specific questions here, there's generally someone around who'll put you in the right direction.

Try & stick with V4.2. She's the latest big thing & alot of content is being made for her. If you have the major morph packages from Daz there's loads of interesting figures you can create.

I work with Vue 6 Infinite so if you need help with import etc I'll try & help.

Dr. Geep's Poser University is highly reccommended as a great starting point by anyone who's anyone in Poserdom! Just don't let Da NaySayGuy fill your head with silly notions. 😉

 Hi jseber1982, welcome.
Which version of poser do you have.  There is a problem importing poser pro figures  and also poser 7 with Sr3 patch into vue, but I have the solution (well not me personally, some others created somee handy dandy python scripts), so just ask if you are stuck and I will help.
Love esther

I just opened up victoria 4.2 in here, no matter what i do, i cant get that annoying purple on her skin to go away lol

jseber1982 ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2008 at 11:48 PM

oh shoot that was easy, just change the materiial.
Can you recommend  a good program to edit the material? I have seen some people use shade

Zhack ( ) posted Wed, 23 July 2008 at 12:44 AM

Changing materials or creating them? Changing them can be done in material room in poser or in vue if you import it there.
Editing them as in actually change the texture would be Photoshop/gimp/paint (ok, maybe not paint...).
Just open the JPG files that is under runtime/textures and edit away :)

Great thanks... I am trying to keep all of my questions in this one posting to keep it cleaner.

Ok another question lol.

I see that when adding hair, some pieces let you change the Z axis to actually move the whole piece up and down.

Some hair pieces only let you alter the hair,(stretch, twist, stuff like that), but it does not have the axis's to let you actually move it around.

Quote - Great thanks... I am trying to keep all of my questions in this one posting to keep it cleaner.

Probably better to create new threads with your questions because some who read this thread may not pop back in, and perhaps someone who knows the answer to a question won't answer because they may not look in this thread.

When posting a question, be sure to put something about what you need help with in the subject line.  For example  "Need help with a pose" or "Where do I find my textures"?    Those are more likely to be looked at than something called "HELP ME!"
