Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
Never mind. I found it. It's at Content Paradise now. It seems that Smith Micro now owns it which explains why it's not at Phil's site anymore.
It's called "Puppet Master"

If you have Poser 7 or Poser Pro, you won't need Puppet Master. The technology has been incorporated in the base product. "Universal poses" is what they are called now, and P7/Poser Pro comes with a Python script that will convert your "normal" poses to Universal poses.
Works reasonably well, I've been able to convert a lot of P5 Judy poses that work pretty well on V3 and V4.
The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
No I don't have Poser 7. I am still in the dark ages with Poser 6, hehe I'll have to work something out. The V3 pose I'm trying to use is just too far off with V4, and the camera angle that I am wanting to use needs precision for the pose, which involves hands, and I suck at posing hands/fingers, lol

Nothing wrong with P6
P6 along with some Choice Python Scripts, (Pupptemaster, poser physics etc) is still quite viable.
I personally will never buy another version of poser
due to the fact that the IPP plugin for cinema has made it possible for us to access our runtime content from directly within
C4D without the need for the poser application at all.
Puppet Master is the only reason why I still have P6 installed. I find that P7 Universal Poses are not so universal when it comes going between say V3 and Kururu or V2 and V4 or when doing animations. If you are doing animation BVH helper by PhilC is a great tool.

Hopefully we just took care of that for you with the update today! Puppet Master now works with Poser 7 and Poser Pro.

Quote - Great will it have all the new figures included like V4, Miki2, Simon, Sydney, Jessi and Olivia etc.?
Most of the ones you desire! ;) ;)
but yes seriously. all the new figures are in there. take a look at the product page. it has a list ( although by the obj name which isn't always great insight) v4, all the G2 figures, Sadie, NearMe, many toon figures, gloria, clark, telka, teo and many many others...

If I want to create a scene with M3 and V4 walking along the beach holding hands, can I load V3 into the scene with M3 and V4, convert the pose to V4 and then have M3 and V4 holding hands? or will I still need to do some tweaking? How long does the conversion take, is it instant or does it take a couple of minutes?
To quote someone (I forget who): Universal Poses does not a Puppet Master BiPed make.
No offense to anyone who uses them, or likes them... but Puppet Master (esp the update) does a MUCH better job of converting poses.
It takes a few minutes from start to finish to copy a pose (literally 5, counting loading of required figures, etc, for me). The poses are not always 100% perfect, GIGO...but Puppet Master does a great job.
aren't they both made by the same person ie puppet master and universal poses?

I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
PuppetMaster was sold to E Frontier and they incorporated it into Poser 7's actual code. By doing so I'm certain that there had to be some coding changes if they added it directly to the software itself and it's doubtful that Kamalich(SP) who wrote the original Python had anything to do with the merging of the two. I could be wrong. The original was written in Python, Universal Poses I'm pretty sure were written in whatever code they use to code Poser with.
JQP - IPP doesn't do magnets yet I don't think, and a lot of V4 stuff movement I think, is magnet based.
You can't save a pose or character back into your runtime from IPP.
You can't import a dynamic pz3 with dynamic clothes I don't think.
apart from that though I haven't found any other drawbacks.

Oh one more, of course, almost goes without saying. You can't import a complicated material node structure eg olivier's toon shaders, and expect them to look the same in C4D
C4D has it's own clothroom called clothhilde where you can dynamic clothing.
C4D looks great when you import Vue scenes using xstream.
You can't get scenery llike that in poser.

Wasn't there a pose converter around somewhere? I thought it was at PhilC's site but I don't see it.
