Subject: Poser 4.03 Update!

esmith6996 ( ) posted Wed, 06 August 2008 at 9:52 PM · edited Wed, 08 January 2025 at 10:47 PM

I used to have the Poser 4.03 update on a CD but now it says some sort of cyclic redundancy error. I've checked the usual Curious Labs/Trend Micro sites but they don't have it anymore. I've even done a thorough search on yahoo and google with no results. Does anyone have it that could email it to me or post it somewhere so I can download it? Any help would be SURELY appreciated.

It's a sign.  A great excuse to go and buy poser 6 which is now fairly cheap. (or even poser pro hehe)
Love esther

MY ONLINE COMIC IS NOW LIVE

I aim to update it about once a month.  Oh, and it's free!

It would be illegal for anyone to send it to you, and the mods here will lock this thread, and could potentially ban you for asking for warez here.

Whoa now!

I still frequently use P4.03 and would also like to know - Is the last update for my software really not available for download anywhere anymore?

hmm...I guess you could ask S(m)ith Micro, and see if they could send it to you. Since you have the serial number, it could be done.

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

yep.. they migh even offer you a low cost upgrade deal, rather then root around in thier old records for your serial number.. even poser 5 would be a big advancement over poser 4...

@ ariescis

If you mean software to work with the DAZ and Poser character models, (as opposed to 3D modeling software to create models from scratch) then fully functional "DAZ STUDIO" is available for free from:

http://www.daz3d.com

click the "3D SOFTWARE" tab, then "DAZ STUDIO" on the left.

"Poser v.7" and "Poser Artist" are retail software apps from Smith Micro

"fully functional"????

Ignore the man behind the curtain!

uh...."pretty functional?"

A cyclic redundancy error means there is a bad spot on your CD.  Have you tried (gently)
cleaning your CD.  Wipe from the center out with a soft, dry, clean cloth. (not in circles).
If that doesn't work there are data recovery programs, such as this one:

http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/cd-recovery.html

which is free.

If this is happening on other disks, your CD drive may be going bad.

Khai ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2008 at 12:26 PM

also you can try this :

coat the bottom side of the CD with toothpaste - a good thick layer is best.
then under running water gently rub the toothpaste off to leave a clean surface.

I've done that trick many times on 'bad' CD's and DVD's and 99% of the time I've recovered the files on the disk.

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2008 at 3:09 PM

just ask 'em at smith mocro.  weinberg still has the last poser 4 updates AFAIK.
he was distributing the OS 9 update on ghosteffects.com for many moons.

p.s. data CDs last 2 - 5 yrs before data degradation sets in, but since said
data is obsolete in 9 months, it hardly matters IMVHO.

Gareee ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2008 at 5:35 PM

Khai.. hadn;t thought of that toothpaste trick in years.. I'll haver to see if I can recover some of my cds my wife "borrowed"..LOL!

For real Khai?   You're serious about the toothpaste thing working??

(...unlike that darn tin-foil hat that was supposed to keep the aliens from reading your mind  -  that one turned out to be a  fake btw)

Khai ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2008 at 8:00 PM

yup totally serious. the toothpaste cleans the surface very nicely indeed... I've used it many times myself...

I told you... you need the 3inch thick foil btw....

infinity10 ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2008 at 10:26 PM

Poser 4.03 is no longer supported, BUT, it survives as a product called Poser Artist at Smith Micro Graphics.

You'd still have to pay for it, though.

Khai ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2008 at 10:28 PM

nope. Poser Artist is now a version of Poser 6.... (they dropped the Poser (4) Artist quite sometime ago)

infinity10 ( ) posted Thu, 07 August 2008 at 10:38 PM

I see.

Then it looks like the options are either to go for  an upgrade to Poser 6 or to Poser Figure Artist ( P6 equivalent), depending on what functionality one needs.   Gotta spend some money, I'm afraid.

I'd first try the CD in a different CD/DVD drive as another drive may be able to read the CD.
