Subject: Rendering JUST an object

Peacer ( ) posted Wed, 20 August 2008 at 7:32 PM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 1:06 AM

I'm very new to Vue and am absolutely loving the package.  I am, however, trying to figure out how to render an isolated object without rendering the atmosphere.  The problem is I need to put a simple geometric shape, like a sphere, in a certain spot and render JUST that with the camera move.  This will allow me to track it in post and composite a green screen actor off in the distance.  I make the shape and select it to only render selected object, it does just that... but it also renders the atmosphere, thus devastating the render time.  Playing around with the multiple passes, such as Object ID, will also render the entire scene.

So the main priority is render time... I know I can render out a mask pass, but I just don't want to have to deal with waiting a day for a simple tracker mark.

Thanks!

Load the black atmosphere from the pre-sets? Or perhaps make it green? :P

there is an atmosphere called Black Back in atmospheres - effects - others that might do the trick.

Ah, did not know about that.  Thanks :)

Before I recommend an easy solution, how do you plan to go about using the render?  Will you cut out the sphere from the black background?  Or do you have another method.  Will you be using Photoshop or something else?

I'm going to use the render to track the ball in After Effects, and use that data to composite a green screen actor into the shot, making it look like a person is in the Vue scene.  Of course, the reason I need that tracker is because the 3D scene has a free camera move with some complicated movements (an imported handheld shot from Max).  I just need something that I can track the actor to.

So you are doing an animation and not a still image.  Rats.  I don't know anything about ani.  If you were using it just as a still render, I would say use a solid background or use your alpha render and cut it out with that or render to a tga file.

#1 you can select "render selected object only" and get only the selected object in your animation sequence. Including the atmosphere unfortunately. But when I remember it right, you could as well save the mask automatically and then use this mask in your postproduction. But this is out of memory, should be verified with the manual or simply by trying.

#2 if you have Infinite you can save the render sequence as tif with embedded transparency, png with transparency etc. Then you have exactly what you need - a perfect masked single animated object.
