Subject: Displacement maps

Hi there!

I'm trying to apply a displacement map in Poser 6 - to be specific, Carodan's wrinkle displacement map for Apollo Maximus. The problem is that it doesn't seem to be having any effect whatsoever. I have set it up in the Material Room, and the preview image there shows its effect. But there is no effect on the figure itself, in either preview or render. I've tried applying other displacement maps to other objects and they don't seem to show either.

Is there some basic trick here that I'm missing? How can the displacement map make a difference to the preview image in the Material Room but not to the object itself?

Could be, did you remember to tick the "Use displacement maps" option in the render settings ?

Have the set the displacement option in the render settings? And set the displacement limits to 1?

I'm officially an idiot. Yes, I hadn't set it in the render settings. I didn't anticipate that there would be such a setting, because why would you apply a displacement map at all if you didn't want to use displacement maps? But such is the way of the world. Thanks for the help!

As doing displacement increases render time, it makes sense to be able setup the materials fully but turn off displacement to speed test renders.
