Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
Been happy with it ever since Poser 4... In fact, I'm not a fan of D|S's interface because I've been used to Poser's for so long. And when on a dual monitor setup it's easy to spread out things to the other monitor, so any issues of Poser's interface taking up too much space is a non-issue for me.
Currently using Poser Pro 2012 (Display Units = feet)
AMD Phenom II 3.2ghz (6 cores)
8gb RAM
Windows 10 Pro 64bit
I can't even figure out how to load a figure, let alone a texture, in Daz|Studio. I've opened it, clicked around, got frustrated and closed it.

Yep, that was me when I first tried Daz|Studio like a year ago, exact same thing, clicked around and couldnt figure out how to load a figure, I tought the interface was criptic back then.
But a few weeks ago I decided to give it another try, watched an interface overview on youtube and a few minutes later I was rendering.
At least PowerPose is worth a try, really, even if you hate the program.
Its all about personal prefference like you all said =)
It's good that you have found something that you are comfortable using. Many individuals give up without developing basic knowledge first; in essence giving up on a great opportunity to develop artistic skills. Have we become a society striving for application instant gratification that we forego learning something that could become truly amazing?
What I do like about D|S is that is is easier to find and load content. Poser has a very clunky
interface to the libraries, you have to double click through all sorts of folders to get to
something, and then double click your way back out again. A real pain. With D|S,
you get an interface similar to Windows Explorer, much easier to use. In some ways
Posing is also easier in D|S, in that the body parts of a figure are organized in a
more tree like set-up, making it easier to find a specific body part. While with Poser
you have to wade through a laundry list of body parts to find the one you want to move.
But Poser has more options, such as the cloth room, set-up room, and a more versitile
material room, so Poser is my program of choice. Just wish it was organized a little
better.
The most important thing DAZ|studio doesn't have, is a save-as PZ3 function.
I agree about powerpose and the content-interface, Powerpose is just super, and the content finder is so much easier than the poserlibrary. But there are stil a dozen other things why I still use poser and refuse to use DAZ|studio, no dynamic clothes, no dynamic hair, no rigging (set-up room), no procedural shaders, no native poser export function, no python scripting etc, etc.
I started 11 years ago with Bryce and Poser and they both had the same interface, once you get used to it, it's not that difficult.
-How can you improve things when you don't make mistakes?
I'm actually coming the other direction.. Daz|Studio is easier to pose in, but the fact that Poser comes out of the box with everything to do a good job, whereas with Daz|Studio you have to fork over major piles of cash for access to advanced features, is pretty off-putting. Using D|S for basic stuff is OK, but if you start pushing it you'll hit the wall pretty hard. Plus, now that I have Vue I appreciate the Vue/Poser interaction, which is (for me) far more reliable than D|S/Carrara.
The only thing that drove me mad about Poser was the library tab.. Advanced Library fixed that!
It all depends on your needs and what best fits your workflow.
I got Das Studio (sic) to work once...between Bryce 5.5 and D|S. Imported a Daz figure to figurine size...spent 5 minutes searching the 'floor' to find the wee lassie...;)
However, if you think Poser is bad, I direct you to (in order of complexity) - Truespace, and Blender...;)
Oh - Acadia's used that avater before. It's probably something for Halloween.

Quote - Yep, I love the Poser interface. I work with Poser since version 4 and I'm glad they didn't change it much.
Guess it's a preference thingie. It's great that there are different things out there to suit different needs :)
Same here. I love my Poser.
I try out each new version of DS and go away muttering $#@ etc etc etc.
There really isn't anything that i do like about DS and I sure as H#^ despise that Daz Ala Carte buying Plug-Ins.

DS is pretty much a one side affair.
You can Input a poser file, but you cannot export anything as one.
The only thing you can export is an Obj file.

Advanced Library?? I can't find any references to that, can someone explain or provide a link, please? (I bet it turns out to be a Windows only program, anyhow!)

Yes, That's what Daz is for. They do it all for you. They tell you what you need, how to use it and when to upgrade to the next version.
How many times have someone said they need something that would only take a couple of minutes and a magnet or two to do and you get 50 links to merchant products. Or, you tell them how they can do it and they say they don't want to learn, make it for me and give it to me.
I'm a poser user. I buy something from Daz knowing I will have to hack it to be able to use it fully. I try DS every so often, just to see what is going on with it but I prefer Poser.
Yes that plugin/nickle and dime you to death, is annoying.
I love the Poser interface! Personally, I've got nothing with DAZ and the way they continually deteriorate art and the annoyances using D/S are far greater then the benefits it offers. For me it's still Poser all the way.
Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

The more I use DazStudio the harder it is for me to use Poser again, I still do because of some content compatibility issues, rigging and the firefly render.
Personally I always hated poser interface, it feels like it takes too much screen, and just dont like the workflow, I like DazStudio so much more, I'm gradually switching over.
I love PowerPose, I do all the posing with it now and just export the pz2, wich is funny given I'm using another program to "Pose" my characters to use in "Poser"...
Are you all happy with poser interface?
