Ummm. Isn't that kind of a personal question?

I looked at the promotion and I still don't know what it is. All I  can say that it 's expensive.

Bopper.

If it is a real product, it looks like a procedural geometry maker. It seems strange that there aren't more (clear) product photos; the ones posted are a little difficult to read.

ockham ( ) posted Tue, 23 September 2008 at 3:45 PM

Does seem puzzling, especially for the price.   Poser came with a couple
of random geometry-maker scripts .... if this product does something more,
the promo doesn't give any hint of it.

Methinks it's more of a profit-maker than anything - who in their right mind would spend that kind of money on something with so little to show in the way of actual usage?

More power to the creator of that if he can get someone to part with $$$ for it - I'd think it would be easier, and more profitable, to just post something that says, "Send me a dollar and I'll send you a thank-you e-mail."

Snake oil, anyone?

SeanMartin ( ) posted Tue, 23 September 2008 at 7:35 PM

Or it could be completely legit. Anyone ask the merchant?

As they say, "never ask the barber whether you need a haircut". I can predict that the merchant won't tell you if the product is snake oil, somehow.

From what I can see, it adds random props with random textures to your scene to "stimulate creativity". The odd thing I noticed is this paragraph:

Quote - OR,
after you've discovered
the secret to unlock your bonus extras
you'll have a total of:57 Shapes
x400 Textures
=22,200 Possible Props

Which sounds as if you have to go on a treasure hunt to unlock features in a program you've just paid for. The decision is yours, but I know what mine would be.

It's the last thing I would ever buy...... for that amount of money I can buy myself some other much clearer and useful items.

But if you want random Geometry (with some bizarre but interesting Escher-like effects), look for a program called Topmod

hey, it's free...;)

I'll put out some feelers folks, and see if I can't find out what exactly this product is and does.

Thanks for the heads up about topmod too. I've downloaded it and can't wait to play around with it.

Ahhhh you just have to love new toys. LOL

While you're at it, find out how it made it past testing with such a lame description of what it does.

ever use a certain Kai 's "convolver'? you had to play with that to get all it's capability... bloody annoying that was...*

Quote - I looked at the promotion and I still don't know what it is. All I  can say that it 's expensive.

Bopper.

From looking at the promo images and reading the accompanying text, it looks to me like it's a script that generates one of 44 or 57 shapes, randomly. It will also apply one of the 300 included textures, randomly.

You can see some of the shapes that are generated from the second promo image.    A star, a fence, bird bath, a face, some fancy circles, a frog, squares, a fancy bow, etc.

I'm not sure how you would use those in a render though, unless you were doing something from the 60's and 70's and you want to put a  picture to your psychedelic trip :)

Now for purposes of collage in a 2D program, those shapes would be great.  If the price weren't so high, I could see me rendering random textured shapes and saving them out as backgroundless images to use in collaged images.  Or I could use a ding font and apply Super Blade Pro.

it's rather obvious what this is: a randomised 3d clip-art thing for poser.
I can see why some users would want this.  since poser users have
deep pockets, I expect this item will experience an increase in sales
as a result of this thread, despite the negative tone of most msgs.

aeilkema ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2008 at 3:58 PM

You forgot to add and huge runtimes...... I can totally see people buying this.... and add it to the other 90% of their runtime they've purchased but never find any use for.
