Hey, I was happy to show a nice new shot of the Grand Canyon I did, it was made with 24 30 meter DEM files and then saved as a .BMP and I tweaked the contrast in Photoshop to help out the results in Vue. Anyways, long story short, I started the rendering last night and when I woke up today I realized that Vue wasn't open and it never rendered the image! :( It happened to me a few times while rendering or using Vue...for no reason it quits without any warnings. I run win2k SP1 and it's rock stable in all applications from Photoshop to LightWave, it's loaded with 512Mb RAM on a rock solid PIII @815Mhz! :( ...I think I found the cause but I am not sure...one of win2k's services crashes a few times while loading and it might be when Vue was running. What is weird is that this service (PerfNet) started buzzing when I got Vue installed; I know they might not be related at all but it's weird. Cheers!

What version of Vue are you running again Flywaver? Have you applied all the updates? Maybe you should let e-on know of your problem...there may be issues with the Win2K service pack. Laurie

Hi Laurie, I use Vue 3.1 as 3.0 wouldn't even load with win2k. :) I will wait for Vue 4 to see if it's rectified. Cheers!

There is a Win2K Svc Pak 2. May be you want to try it with the same senario.

Oh no hehe I won't install SP2 for a while I just have too much softwares that are working perfectly and with my VIA based mobo it's best to stay away from anything that might conflict with it. :) I just got Vue 4 WOOHOO!!!!! hehe couldn't resist! :) Cheers!

I had this problem and never could figure it out; however my harddrive died (related?) and I reloaded win2000 then Vue and never (3 months) had the problem again, but I remember that I never got around to doing the service pack 1 the second time- so I suspect that is the problem. Good luck dude.

I've never had problems with lockups of Vue under Win2k. I've run 3.1 under SP1 & SP2. I just got Vue 4 and so far have had no anomolies . . .

There were no lockups...Vue simply dissapeared as if it was never started. :) Win2k never locks up here too in any applications. It might be related to my latest VIA drivers and not even related to Vue I don't know. :) Cheers!

Fly, I have the same problem. Vue 3.1 crashed so often on me that it was unusable for me after I installed W2k. I hope Vue 4 won't have this problem. Just ordered the upgrade...

Hi I installed Vue 4 and it is working great for now but it did "hang out" when I tried rendering a Vue 3 scene. Cheers!

I can't quite believe you all got such problems. I run Vue 3.1 in a W2K Environment on a 800Mhz Pentium with 256 MBs of Ram. While Vue is quite prone to crashes (about 5 to 6 times a workday for me) - especially the material editor, I have not experienced any other problems yet. Vue seems to expect you to make very slow, deliberate mouse-klicks. Working to fast for the programm seems to be the source of most of the problems in Vue. However, you have to be a bit careful, what you install under Windows 2000. A lot of programms have really poor codes (Especially Adobe and Corel are real System-Hogs once installed, cluttering your system with useless DLLs that should be stored elsewhere.). I have had really bad problems with my Vue d'Esprit after installing Macromedia Flash and Freehand. Afer removing these two programms, problems with Vue ceased to appear. Joerg

Hmmm...5-6 times per day is a LOT compared to other softwares. I run Photoshop and LightWave every day and if you think Vue is a hog think again...LW eats cpu and RAM for breakfast and the more power you throw at it the faster it spits it out. :) It seems that Vue crashes a lot less on my side than yours...in a week it went away 3 times and this is a LOT considering I run other apps for 24h/day and they crash once a month or so. I can't see Photoshop crashing and having bad code as I run it with as much as 1Gb of swap files while manipulating heavy graphics and it never crashed on me. Cheers!

Joerg, I don't think that 5-6 crashes per workday, forced slow program operations timed with a stopwatch and the requirement to uninstall standard applications like Flash should be tolerated by the user. Therefore, I really hope that there is some improvement in Vue 4. I would rather sacrifice Vue than Photoshop or Flash. Greetings from Germany ;-) Gabi

Just thought I'd add my two cents in regards to experiences with Vue4 thusfar.. I've had 2 crashes.. One while rendering a rather intense volumetric image (fluke, who knows, resumed the render all is good). The second however was annoying and work was lost.. I was simply selecting an area to render and the program locked up. (argh!) I'm running Win2k SP1 P3-600 with 512MB ram.

Well, I learned a long time ago that you can't generalize from one's experience so this is why we can't say if it works for me it works for everybody...not in today's PC world, there is more than a million combinations possible when building a PC and there is no way every software and hardware part is compatible with the others. :) Cheers!

As much as I hate Vue's quite crash-prone programming, I need the programm. I have to create scenes for a game with it and I hate Bryce passionately for it's weird material editor. I simply reinstalled my whole system, bought a new harddisk and installed all of my programms on a different drive than the system. Most programms run quite stable by now, my harddisk is much more structured and even Vue seems to be a lot less prone to crash. I still hope that Vue 4 will be a little less crashy than its predecessor. Have fun, Joerg

My 2 HD's have a total of 7 partitions and I run 2 OS...partitions are the one of the best way to make a system more stable. Even my swap files are in a dedicated partition. :) Vue 4 seems a lot more stable now than Vue 3 was. Cheers!
