Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 12 9:45 pm)
Poser Pro has gamma correction and low poly figures. Some have claimed these features alone are worth the price. I'm not sure if those who claim this actually work for Smith Micro...
If you don't use a high end 3d program, if you don't have a 64 bit system and if you already have Poser 7, there would be little point in purchasing Poser Pro in my opinion.

Point of note, Poser Pro does not work with Cinema 4D R11 and apparently Smith Micro has no plans to keep up with it:

I think it likely that the same will be true for any new versions of the other high end apps, 3ds Max and May etc.
No, yvonne, someone told you wrong. Most of the additional facilities in Poser Pro are supported on 32 bit operating systems like mine (Mac OS X Tiger). For example:-
Having a 64-bit system would allow you to use the 64-bit Firefly rendering engine in Poser Pro. With a 32-bit system, it just uses the 32-bit engine.
I upgraded from Poser 7 to Poser Pro. I chose the cheaper Base version because I have no need (yet??) for the advanced interface options the full version provides... Collada, etc.

Normal Mapping & Network Rendering (if not on a network, the background) are the two biggest things that Les (aka Sixus1) really loves Poser Pro. As of yet not a lot of products are released with Normal Maps included because end users don't seem to understand what they are for. If you would like to see a couple of images using normal maps rendered out of Poser Pro....let me and I will have Les whip up a couple.

Poser Pro is starting to sound really intresting!
Background rendering and render several images during the night sounds really great!!!
Here are the differense between regular and Base version
Poser Pro Full
Poser Pro Base
Can anyone explain in plain english please? (english isn´t my language)
If I create content and render images, base would be enough??

**I think that base version would be enough.
**
the extra features in the full version would benefit someone who needs to host Poser files directly in other (high-end) 3D applications, which is not necessary for content creation. I think that Les has used Poser Fusion a couple of times rendering images out of Maya just for fun.
The extra render won't do anything if you don't have a network of computer to render on.....
If you don't know if you need Collada, then I would go with you don't.

I just got the base version about 2 weeks ago and love it and it's plenty for me because I don't use nor have the other high end programs that Poser Pro the full version supports. I am very happy with just the base Poser Pro version.
I got myself Poser Pro Base and it´s working just fine :-))

My advice re SmithMicro is to stay away in droves ...
I had a problem trying to download Poser Pro .... the assistance from Smith Micro was rude and insulting. I have been using Poser for 8 years and have upgraded from Poser 4 to Poser 7 .... Poser 7 will be my last upgrade unless a new company takes over.
Shame!

Hmm ...this is EXACTLY what Happened with the original poser4 "propack"
and Cinema4DXL 7 and Lightwave 6
They hyped that version as being a companion app to cinema and as soon as MAXON upgraded Cinema the erstwhile "Curious labs" fled the scene and left us
Maxon/ Lightwave/poserpro users with with hobsons choice of never upgrading our Main Program to keep our poser "hosting" plugin useful .
or give up on easy poser import.
Typical !!!
Forget poser pro and get the "interposer" plugin from
Kuryome(sp)?
Just a note on the background rendering engine. I'm using winXP home and for me rendering in the background doesn't really work. I can render in the background and still work on the scene, BUT the rendering never finishes, it keeps on rendering in the bakground for ages, nothing really happens. It really was designed with 64bit in mind, allowing you to allocate unlimted memory to the rendering engine and still be able to continue to work in in Poser Pro, assuming you have more then enough memory in your system.
Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(
Food for thought.....

...I don´t have Vista 64 bits?
I have Vista 32 and P7 but I think P7 is unstable and crashes a lot.
But from what I can read there are only difference for those with 64 b.
I also wonder if anyone knows the difference between the regular PP or the base version?
