Subject: Clothed Male and Female Models Wanted

8ok44lemmein2 ( ) posted Fri, 24 October 2008 at 2:00 PM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 12:52 PM

Hi,

Sometimes I don't have the time to correctly clothe the male and female models that I want to use in my animations and don't have the time to fix holes in the clothes, etc.

Does anyone here have male and female models that are already clothed and ready to be posed?

If you have Poser there are clothed models from each version.  Casual dress and Business person.

Hi markschum,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I am aware of the clothed models that come with the Poser installation.

Some of them are older models that are not as easy to pose although and even though there are the new G4 models, I am looking for variety. The more the better.

I am mainly looking for additional clothed figures in the following categories:

  • Business clothing
  • Casual clothing (jeans, T-shirt, shoes, etc.)
  • Sexy clothing (for the females, skirts, shorts, etc.)

Please let me know if you know of any such models.

Turbosquid.com has clothed figures, but if I remember right, they're not for Poser.
Poser works on a slightly different concept

no kidding!  Clothed models may be pricey, because they cater to businesses and architectural viz mostly.

I don't know exactly what you're going for with the animations, but making poking parts invisible seems a work around to avoid the high cost of predressed figures, arms and legs are the usual culprits and they'll go invisible lickety split.

Hi schtumpy,

Thanks for the reminder. I knew there was a way to deal with the skin poking through the clothes, but I forgot how to deal with it.

I guess the only problem would be when the culprits are around the neck area or other such areas that you cannot hide because the neck or head would disappear or something. But I don't remember anything like that happening to me yet.

I'll try it out to hide the body parts that poke through.

just a word about turbosquid....yes the prices can make your jaw drop.

However, when you are looking for something, search it there, then sort on price low to high.....

You''ll be suprised on the number of free or really chepa items, good ones.

Hi operaguy,

Thanks for the info.

If their models don't work quite right with Poser, do they work well in Carrara Pro?

I mainly use those two programs for posing, creating scenes and rendering.

well if a static prop like a room or a desk etc., you import .obj into Carrara. Same in Poser, although Poser can import .3ds as well and a lot of TurboSquid models are avail in that.

For rigged models....that is another whole world. What are you tryihg to find?

Hi operaguy,

What I am trying to find now is male and female figures that are already clothed or that are quick and easy to clothe.

It is taking too long for me to get some of the figures that I have correctly clothed.

And now they have clothing magnets for the new figures and so on...

If the only thing that I had to do in life was to work on 3D figures then it would not be a problem, but there are other things to do each week :-)

okay now i see. i doubt you will find anything at turbosquid for you purposes. There are many many figures with clothing there. Some are even rigged and ready to animate.

But not rigged for Poser. They are rigged for 3DSMax or Maya or in some cases a few others.

wait....i was wrong.    Didn't you try, at least? Just go to turbosquid.com and on the home page type in "Poser." It immediately brought up hundereds of models, many being full figures with clothing all rigged for Poser.

Check it out.

Hi operaguy,

Thanks, you're right. You do have to go through the figures to find ones that come already clothed and you do need to sort by lowest priced first, but that site is a possible solution to the ordeal of clothing figures.

Thanks again,

if there are any freebie clothed figures at the 'squid, it doesn't matter if they're rigged,
in regard to c6pro animation. it's preferable that they be wavefront.obj models in
default (T) pose IMVHO.  ask in carrara forum, and mark or one of the pros can tell
ya how easy it is.  there's also the dosch 3d architectural set of clothed figures ($$$),
which aren't in the default pose, unfortunately.  for those who aren't doing figure
animation.

Hi miss nancy, yes if one opens up the window of obtaining non-rigged figures with clothes, now you have a wider selection; would not even have to be "poser" explicit content as you point out, just as long as you can import it into Poser or Carrara .obj with materials.

One then has to factor back in the work of rigging the thing. I have not tried it in Poser or Carrara myself.

Hi,

I saw in TurboSquid where the artist was selling a clothed version and a nude version of his model.

Why don't you folks do that here? I would buy those packages each week.

You could even have packages consisting of one nude version and five or so different clothed versions of the same figure.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one who doesn't like the learning curve or the time involved, or the effort and frustration it takes to correctly clothe figures.

o.g. makes a good point, but c6pro has an "attach skeleton" command in the "animate" menu,
which obviates much of the tedium involved in rigging an unrigged wavefront.obj model IMVHO.

whether SM will include a similar command in poser 8, or whether SM will sell poser 8 to
autodesk are open questions at this point, but it's a buyer's market, now that the true
value of money is starting to filter down.

Hello,

Yea but doing weight map painting and setting up the rotation constraints in Carrara can be a time consuming ordeal.

At least that was my experience.

I figured out my problem with clothing my characters and I have a rythm now, so that is no longer a problem for me, as long as the clothing is created to conform correctly.

When I first started this thread I was going in circles with one clothing set that was not created to conform well. So I thought they were all like that.

And I figured out some other things along the way. So now I have quite a few correctly clothed figures saved in my library.

Thanks for all the input,
