How can I rig the tracks on this so that they move like if they where like a tank track?

Helgard has a tutorial somewhere (and a free tank to inspect).

VK's original posts can be found via a forum search.

It really is quite tricky. One of VK's threads on the subject is here: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=1499769, and his tutorial is here: http://www.atlantis23.com/erc_download.html. Although the links don't work any more since the forum software was upgraded beyond repair, Helgard's post in this thread: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?message_id=2011134 outlines some simpler choices.

Apologies for the texual links, but the forking forum editor has stopped doing the link thing, and I can't seem to type in HTML as I used to either. Just imagine, if you will, how much better the forum would work if VK had coded it. :)

now all we need is a brave programmer to make an app to automate this setting up for tracks.

I know I'd buy a copy!

I have looked at the links and find my self totally confused!

I agree we need a brave programmer to create a program or python that does this.

An alternate solution for solid tracks is animated material.

The hard part is UVmapping.  You'd have to map each tread in
cylindrical form, spread out properly.

With the proper mapping, you can then paint the tracks and their
displacement (the lugs) onto the wrapped mesh, and animate
the U offset in Poser.

But this wouldn't work for your model with its distinctly separate "teeth".

You might also play with my Tracker Recirculating script.  I think it's in this ZIP

http://ockhamsbungalow.com/PPP/Tracker2.zip

To make this work, you'd need to start with an EP-tube type figure.
Wrap it around the wheels in the shape you need.

Prepare just one of the tread pieces as a prop, oriented and scaled
correctly to stand at the starting point of the EP-tube.  Then the script
will take care of moving the props around the EP-tube in recirculating form.
After they are set up, you could parent them to the tank itself,
and save their motion as an animated PZ2.

(More info is in the readme for the script.)

I have seen treads done by animating one tread segment and using a follower script to make all the others take the same path but delayed. It requires each tread section to be a seperate object though .

Just an update, so far what I have gotten done - I was able to get the wheels on each side to move together (right wheels when I select the group right wheels same with the left). I have not yet figured out how to create dials in the main body.  I have tried the tutorials but I cannot get the tracks to move correctly.

Any other advice would be appreciated.
