Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 13 6:58 am)
Well it'd be useful to know what versions of Poser and Vue you're using!!
You need to check that the Poser textures are being imported, if your textures have the running man when imported in Vue then they are Poser textures, if the running man is absent it means Vue isn't bringing in the Poser textures and is substituting it's own!!
Morphs should come in without problems, have you set the Poser import up properly inside Vue??
As a last resort, run the uncompress script inside Poser and try importing it into Vue again!!

Ok, I imported another character and the skin is not shiny on this one, so I guess it's a Poser thing I'm bringing over. However, as with my previous character, it is missing the morphs for the hair, skin, face, age, eyes... all of them and I do have Vue setup for Poser Import. I clicked on the button and it was right.
What else do I need to do?
Also, it does NOT show the running man.
Thanks, thefixer.

If the running man isn't there, then it's not using the Poser materials!!!
I had this problem when I changed my pc, I had to reinstall Vue to get it to work properly!! I'm not saying that just yet though, we can maybe try other things first!!
How are you bringing the Poser import in?? Are you ticking "use poser shader tree"???

Make sure you have binary morphs in Poser turned off. You won't see the running man unless you IMPORT using the Poser shader tree(option upon importing)
As to the shine - check the highlights tab(they are usually far too high & the color is wrong as well - typically black or grey which will give the skin a very dull washed out look - this goes for other items as well not just skin) & the effects tab - try turning down the ambient & diffuse amounts.
*You won't see the running man unless you IMPORT using the Poser shader tree(option upon importing) *
Oops yep, that's right.................."use shader tree" is on by default on mine, forgot about that, sorry, my mistake!!
I've never had that problem with highlights though or the colours being wrong!!
Binary morphs is prolly why the morphs aren't working though, another one I forgot about, been switched off on mine for years.......LOL..........sorry again, I think I need to recharge!!!

Oooh yeah - the highlights can be the bane of my life. Another gripe is with bl**dy reflection maps!!! Grr

Ok, I found the problem about the morphs not coming over.
Somehow the timeline in Poser got moved (I don't do animations so how I did that, I don't know) and the frame where the morphs were located was on frame thirteen and I was just importing frame one. Whew! That one resolved.
And that took care of the shiny skin also but the face and hair doesn't have all the fine detail and still looks a little plasticy when compared to a render in Poser, and I did it in a Final Render in Vue.
Now I see the running man. Thanks for the Poser Shader Tree tip dlk.
Also, when I reposition the character in Vue I get those box elements showing as is an option in Poser. Any idea why that is?
What can I do to get more Poser-like fine detail in the face and hair?
Thank you for your help, both of you.
Michael
Box elements??? Did you import choosing to allow re-posing inside Vue? I don't know what "box elements" are.
The same advice given above would apply to the face & hair as well. In addition when rendering for the hair make sure you have AA turned way up(this will increase render times) OTOH this can vary between different hairs. I would also suggest turning highlights completely off for hair & let Vues Atmos. do it's thing - natural highlights.
IMO dynamic hair looks hideous no matter what one does - all the renders I've seen using DYN hair look clumpy & horribly grainy.
Some Poser hair doesn't look good in Vue whatever you do with it!!
You need to try some and see which works best for you in Vue, then tweak it to suit, but even with tweaking some will still look crap!!
I don't understand the box thing either unless you mean that the image turns into a box when moving or rotating, is that what you mean??
That could be a memory or a graphics card issue or how you've set Vue up to behave when moving stuff around!!

1)no
2)no
3)yes
4)Varies but usually 0.001
Reposing in Vue sucks, I keep Poser open and repose and resave in there, Vue always sees that you've done that and asks if you want to re-import which I do and it always plonks it down in the same place, which is great, much quicker, easier and more resource friendly!!

No check on quatrrnion interpolaton - leave bump conversion the way it is. Sometimes the bump will have to adjusted as well - it could in to high or too low. You just always need to examine your mat & decide for yourself what you think is best & change accordingly. Yes to group as single meshes - also check collapse identical materials - this will save memory!
I don't ever repose in Vue so that check is optional as to what you want to do.
Edited: I see we differ as to yes/no on single meshes ;) I always click yes :)

my settings are a bit different to TheFixers, mine would be
1 yes
2 no
3 yes
4 I leave at default then tweak later
The only reason I select yes to Group meshes is because I use SkinVue pretty much all the time and it's needed for that. (unfortunately that's infinite and XStream only for the OP)

I have a couple problems with my V4 character into Vue:
1. The skin on the face is shiny, looking more like reflective glass than skin.
- I have the Reflection turned to 0
- there is no reflectivity map
so I'm not sure what else I can do
also
2. None of the face morphs came over: the smile, the eyes, etc., not there
Does anyone know what I can do to fix these two problems?
