Subject: First problem with Vue 7 - anyone help ?

gillbrooks ( ) posted Thu, 06 November 2008 at 3:19 PM · edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 1:40 PM

In all 4 views, only the selected object is properly visible - anything else is just a box!

I can't find anything in 'options' and I've looked in the manual but no luck.

This is horrid and I can't line anything up properly.

Anyone know how to get it to show the unselected objects properly ??

Weird...All I can think of is the instant and background draw threads are not good enough (push the sliders towards the right), or maybe you are not usin openGL hardware accelerated?
What model is your graphic card? Did you check its compatibility?

gillbrooks ( ) posted Thu, 06 November 2008 at 4:28 PM

I have those sliders set the same in both apps and using open GL hardware acc.

Using NVidia GEForce 7500LE and vue is set to test compaitiblity on startup

Gill,

i dont claim to know even half as much as you gurus...

but what if all the objects are coming in with display mode set to "filled box"?

look under object --- display options and see what things are set at.  this is the only place ive found where you can end up with a box instead of the actual shape.  (btw, i have pro studio 6)

if this doesnt work... well... ummm... am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

=D

No, melikia, a selected box would be a red box, and in Gill's screengrab, I see a red ogl terrain....

melikia ( ) posted Thu, 06 November 2008 at 5:11 PM

mmm, true, very true, Bruno - something i didnt think about.

it is a puzzlement, and im curious to see what exactly it is.

have you put in a support ticket, gill?

Hi Gill,

I have the same problem in V6I. The only way I've been able to solve the problem is to select the object and wait for 10-20 minutes for it to draw itself, re-save scene file and the next time I load it, everything's fine.

It's a real PITA.

Cheers.
Chris

gillbrooks ( ) posted Thu, 06 November 2008 at 5:17 PM

Thanks for the tip melikia but all objects are set to display smooth shaded.

I have narrowed it down to only happening with terrains.  I can have as many ojbects and plants in a scene as I want and all display right.  Load a terrain....fine too - even if I select one of the other objects in the scene.  BUT - load a SECOND terrain and the first terrain reverts to a box in all 4 views.

gillbrooks ( ) posted Thu, 06 November 2008 at 5:18 PM

Never had a problem in 6 Chris.  The only time I got just boxes was when I'd got a LOT of things in a scene - especially trees, but if I hid a few from display the ones I was working with looked ok again.

If no one else who reads this thread is getting the same thing happen then I will raise a ticket

Well, time for support ticket, Gill. You should be awarded the 1st weird Vue7 bug!

bruno021 ( ) posted Thu, 06 November 2008 at 5:45 PM

Gill, have you tried software openGL? Is it the same? Also, do you have the new openGL AntiAliasing options on?

dlk30341 ( ) posted Thu, 06 November 2008 at 6:19 PM

I'm getting the same thing Gil - a red terrain no matter what mat I put on it.

gillbrooks ( ) posted Thu, 06 November 2008 at 6:33 PM

It's not the red terrain that's the problem - that's just the mesh showing.  My problem is that dark flat box on the right - should also be a terrain mesh

Bruno, I can't check right now as I have a render going.   Something I started yesterday in 6 and I'm renndering it in 7 but I will check when it's done (that could be tonight or tomorrow morning 'pending on how long the render takes 😉

Gotcha!

ashley9803 ( ) posted Thu, 06 November 2008 at 7:45 PM

Vue will do this when system resources drop below a certain point.
But your scene is not overloaded, so  ???
There is an option somewhere in Vue6 to not do this despite low memory. Not sure where I saw it though.
Could be a false interpretation of available memory?

gillbrooks ( ) posted Thu, 06 November 2008 at 8:00 PM

Right....

So very weird this - after my render had finished I started a blank scene and then checked the open gl software option and also unchecked the anti aliasings.

On re open - vue crashed.  3 times.  Then finally it said it'd detected conflicts and did I want to reset factory defaults.  I replied yes.

Now I can load 2 terrains and they both show as meshes BUT when I add a 3rd, the 2nd goes to the flat grey box.  Resources are at 75%

I'll raise a ticket tomorrow

My Vue 7 is downloading as I speak. Once I install it I will try to approach your problem. But remember, it's Vue 7.000 and might have a bug or two.

Hi Gill,

Try to uncheck "limit OpenGL polygons" in the Display options tab in the option menu. That solved that particular problem in my case.

Ciao

I think render settings for Vue 7 are much more touchy than it was for Vue 6. Especially for some graphic cards.

I have relative good experiences with the settings I post here:

Ouch, that purple again! or is lilac?

If this is the worse to happen with the official unveiling of V7, we are going to all be happy.

offrench ( ) posted Fri, 07 November 2008 at 3:05 AM · edited Fri, 07 November 2008 at 3:07 AM

I have had this problem too. It is a feature, not a bug :-)

Check out the Limit OpenGL polygons settings. By default in Vue 7 it is 500,000 wich is quite low. If your scene has more than this, it goes back to displaying boxes.

I have put it at 10,000,000 (with a GeForce 8800 512mb of memory).

It would be interesting to have recommended settings depending on video chips and memory.

Thanks Gill for that lil tip. I will try it with Fonts as they throw splashes colors around my scenes to the point I can not see what I am doing!!!

Olivier, j'ai ce parametre déselectionné. Aucune limite. Et pas de problème!

Thank you Wabe!!

I unchecked the limit open GL polygons and I now have 6 standard adn 2 procedural terrains loaded and all showing correctly

I find the best way is to create a new layer and turn off visiblity, and when you've finished needing to see a plant or object, drag it into that layer.  Many of my scenes contain a layer called 'hidden plants' !!!

Cool cuz I'll tell ya folks I have this very same problem going on in Vue 6 inf. Many of the objects I have in the scene does this too. I know I have enough ram (8GB) and I am on a quad core machine with Vista 64. Many times this happens when I am moving and object into place or move the cameras.

Oh yeah and a 9600GT vid card 512MB

Thanks for the tip of unchecking the box. I kept adding terrains to see what would happen and on the third one, the box. I had set my polys to 500,000. Now all Ok.

But I have a question. When I looked at Gill's picture of the terrain in 6 and 7, mine looked the same re: the red "selection mesh." Can one change the one in Vue 7 I to reflect the spacing of the mesh in Vue 6 I? I have tried resizing and a lot of other things. I don't like the dense quality of it. I find it distracting.

I find it strange to work with too - especially eco painting
