Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 30 6:52 am)
Gill,
i dont claim to know even half as much as you gurus...
but what if all the objects are coming in with display mode set to "filled box"?
look under object --- display options and see what things are set at. this is the only place ive found where you can end up with a box instead of the actual shape. (btw, i have pro studio 6)
if this doesnt work... well... ummm... am keeping my fingers crossed for you!
=D
Rarer than a hairy egg and madder than a box of frogs....

Thanks for the tip melikia but all objects are set to display smooth shaded.
I have narrowed it down to only happening with terrains. I can have as many ojbects and plants in a scene as I want and all display right. Load a terrain....fine too - even if I select one of the other objects in the scene. BUT - load a SECOND terrain and the first terrain reverts to a box in all 4 views.
Gill
It's not the red terrain that's the problem - that's just the mesh showing. My problem is that dark flat box on the right - should also be a terrain mesh
Bruno, I can't check right now as I have a render going. Something I started yesterday in 6 and I'm renndering it in 7 but I will check when it's done (that could be tonight or tomorrow morning 'pending on how long the render takes
Gill
Right....
So very weird this - after my render had finished I started a blank scene and then checked the open gl software option and also unchecked the anti aliasings.
On re open - vue crashed. 3 times. Then finally it said it'd detected conflicts and did I want to reset factory defaults. I replied yes.
Now I can load 2 terrains and they both show as meshes BUT when I add a 3rd, the 2nd goes to the flat grey box. Resources are at 75%
I'll raise a ticket tomorrow
Gill
I have had this problem too. It is a feature, not a bug :-)
Check out the Limit OpenGL polygons settings. By default in Vue 7 it is 500,000 wich is quite low. If your scene has more than this, it goes back to displaying boxes.
I have put it at 10,000,000 (with a GeForce 8800 512mb of memory).
It would be interesting to have recommended settings depending on video chips and memory.

Quote - but if I hid a few from display the ones I was working with looked ok again.
Thanks Gill for that lil tip. I will try it with Fonts as they throw splashes colors around my scenes to the point I can not see what I am doing!!!

I find the best way is to create a new layer and turn off visiblity, and when you've finished needing to see a plant or object, drag it into that layer. Many of my scenes contain a layer called 'hidden plants' !!!

Mazak
This is OpenGL preview!
Thanks for this tip - I turned off the limit OpenGL polygons and now things display much better!

Cool cuz I'll tell ya folks I have this very same problem going on in Vue 6 inf. Many of the objects I have in the scene does this too. I know I have enough ram (8GB) and I am on a quad core machine with Vista 64. Many times this happens when I am moving and object into place or move the cameras.
Oh yeah and a 9600GT vid card 512MB
Thanks for the tip of unchecking the box. I kept adding terrains to see what would happen and on the third one, the box. I had set my polys to 500,000. Now all Ok.
But I have a question. When I looked at Gill's picture of the terrain in 6 and 7, mine looked the same re: the red "selection mesh." Can one change the one in Vue 7 I to reflect the spacing of the mesh in Vue 6 I? I have tried resizing and a lot of other things. I don't like the dense quality of it. I find it distracting.

I can't find anything in 'options' and I've looked in the manual but no luck.
This is horrid and I can't line anything up properly.
Anyone know how to get it to show the unselected objects properly ??
