Subject: Something I would like to see and desperately need...

I posted this in the Poser Forum as well. I probably should have posted it here first, though.

With my runtime folder being the size that it is, it would be quite the task to go and eliminate all of the old .bum references and maps individually. The problem is that I have been using Poser from 4 to 7 and my external runtime folder still has a lot of old references. Is there a python script or an application that batches out the work? I WOULD PAY GOOD MONEY FOR SUCH A THING! A lot of money! Stupid amounts of cash to solve this issue.

So far all I have been doing is, when a reference would appear in a new scene, I would deal with it on a project-by-project basis. The problem is that there seems to be no end doing it this way. Reinstalling each item one by one isn't an option for me. To do so would take time I don't have and keep me from my work. And using Notepad to change line references takes an exhaustingly long time per file. I tell you, the person who releases a product to address this issue will get my dollars fast. What a headache. It makes me wish I had begun with Poser pro instead.

the files you need to edit are text files unless you use the compressed format.   There are several text editors that will search and replace across multiple files .

try textcrawler or blockreplacer.

I would make sure you have a backup before doing this .

Ditto.  TextCrawler (the second link) works very nicely and fast.  The other
one requires a Java runtime, which you may not have already.

Tell TextCrawler to start in one of your runtimes, as in F:Poser 7Runtime, and it will
find and replace quickly.  One caution from painful experience:

Be sure to add the dot, as in
Find:  .bum
Replace with:  .jpg

Otherwise you'll be replacing every
        bumpStrength 1
with
        jpgpStrength 1

and replacing every
        bumpMap NO_MAP
with
        jpgpMap NO_MAP

I thought about doing this in Python, but there wouldn't be any real advantage.
Python file operations are comparatively slow.  The only thing the Python could do
better is to locate all of your connected runtimes automatically.

Thanks Guy :)  BTW I love the animation, ockham. What is she doing exactly?

CRPro at Hogsoft.com works great for fixing references and cleaning Runtimes.

Doran ( ) posted Wed, 12 November 2008 at 10:33 PM

Hogsoft.com is gone. Links don't work. The page is no longer available.
