Hey, Thanx for your time first of all..I have been trying to build some laser fire for a few weapons..though I haven't come up with to much yet.my idea was two cylinders...one inside the other, the inside cyl parented to the outside colored red or green and then somewhat transparent..I have changed the render material options dozens of times...not to happy with the results...what is the best way to create a laser...here is my mech...

It reminds me of a Cougar and Catapult hybrid. It looks really nice. Your way of doing lasers is how I do it too, then I just "glow" it up in post. Vairesh

if you have photoshop, add a layer on top, then use either the line tool or just freehand a bolt, the go to layers>effects>outer glow, and play with the settings..i usually have opacity at 100, blur at around 30, and then adjust the intensity to fit the pic...and get an effect like this

In Poser I use a maximum brightness white cylindrical rod, as in the thread at this link. In Bryce I set it also to "do not cast shadows", "do not receive shadows", "light". As raygun beams would emit light, this is where I would want radiosity to get it more realistic, if Poser 5 or Bryce 5 will have it. Making a raygun beam any other color would make it darker, as each of the 3 screen primary colors (red, green, blue) can only be set to brightnesses 0 or 1 or 2 or etc to 255; I had this nuisance with making a blue oxyacetylene blowtorch flame look realistic rather than like a shiny blue plastic bud : if I could make the flame red=green=0, blue = 2000 (and preferably also set the flame to "act as light source, radiosity on"), it would be fine, but computer screen phosphors wouldn't obey it; all I can do is make it maximum white as if the brightness had overexposed that bit of the camera's film. Radiosity is when anything can act as a light source and light rays are followed through many bounces. Currently in Bryce a ray of light is only seen if it comes from a Bryce light or the sun or the moon, and bounces ONCE (not more times) before reaching the current camera. But radiosity is very expensive in rendering time.

Correction: I suspect that in Bryce a ray can be seen if it bounces more than once, if all the bounces after the first are mirror-type reflection.
