Subject: Jedi and Sith accessories question

martyrdog ( ) posted Sat, 08 November 2008 at 10:41 PM · edited Sat, 07 December 2024 at 9:17 PM

Now.. I know what ya thinking.. I wasn't entirely sure WHERE to put this in the forums.. but  I had to ask..

I've noticed that Renderosity as well as Daz aren't allowed to "indorse"  the sale of various "Star Wars" models (licencing?), which has led me to the question that asks "Has anyone actually created it and wanted to upload it under free items?"

Of course, we have the tunics.. we have a few lightsabers floating around, even have the odd ship and of course.. who can forget the Maul texture :P

I guess the one thing that's doing my head in at the moment are the boots. Sith and Jedi a like, their both doing my head in. Sure.. I've seen and have some GREAT looking sci-fi boots.. but.. I think maybe only one comes close to being Jedi. The whole strap thing.. etc etc.

So I guess I ask.. no.. I plead for someone (begs lol) that has a talent in 3D design of boots and star wars clothing accessories.. or wants to attempt something for Daz Studio/Poser I'm sure there's someone out there that wants to make them :P I'm sure I'm not the only one that would want something like that ;)

Cheers you lot for reading

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound

I have a thread on my forum called In search of Star Wars that has a 95% complete list of everything Poser related to start wars and where to find them. If you know of something new that is not there please post it and I will update the list.

Royal Guard, Chewie and a decent C3P0 has been the biggest requests. I did start working on a few other characters but never gotten around to finish them.

Anglu ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 12:36 PM

Talking about Star Wars: Can anyone help me to find a space ship of Corellian design that works in Daz/Studio?
Corellian design means: the more it looks like the Millennium Falcon or the Ebon Hawk from KotOR the better.

nyguy ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 1:21 PM

I have a falcon that is Poser ready, don't know about Daz Studio.

Poserverse The New Home for NYGUY's Freebies

martyrdog ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 2:51 PM

Yeah i edited a 3d model of the falcon for a custom ship design for a project I'm looking at doing just to see what it looks like... only difference between the falcon and this is that the cockpit is in the middle at the front...

Anglu ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 2:56 PM

If it works in Poser it should also work in Studio, the only problems may be the material settings, but I think I can deal with that.

martyrdog ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 3:00 PM

yeah it's pretty easy to import 3ds max stuff in.. I mean you have to convert them (export them to obj) but it's not hard.. most of the time Max will save the material settings so that all you'd have to do is manually place them. I did that with a number of the models I downloaded in 3ds max format after I converted them and they still turned out pretty well :)

I'm still kinda new at all this 3d stuff myself so I'm really only just playing around and see what I can make. An Ebon Hawk would be cool though. I could have sworn somewhere I saw a model of that.. I don't remember where though.. I'll have to take another look sometime.

Anglu ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 3:45 PM · edited Thu, 13 November 2008 at 3:51 PM

Hm, I don't have 3ds Max...

Yes, I think I saw a 3d-Hawk, too, I think it was on deviantart, but I'm not sure...
In fact, it would be better if the ship I get resembles more the hawk than the falcon, because my OCs, for which I need it, lived in the KotOR-era. I just love that game too much...

EDIT: I think I found it, but it won't be of any use for me:  http://cryobash.deviantart.com/art/Ebon-Hawk-65929545

Oh yes, that looks good!

nyguy ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2008 at 7:54 AM · edited Fri, 14 November 2008 at 7:57 AM

Can be found here http://www-c.inria.fr/gamma/download/STAR_WAR/index0.php
You will need to search some for it. There are several versions in several formats.

EDIT
Make sure you read the source and restrictions at the bottom of the model page.

Bad news: It doesn't work!
I got the .obj-version of that ship, but when I import it into my scene, I don't see anything. not only the ship is invisible, also anything else I have in the scene dissapeares!

Fett713 ( ) posted Sat, 15 November 2008 at 3:53 AM

Did you try adjusting the import scale?  Sometimes, imported objects can be physically very, very large compared to the tiny little objects Daz/Poser works with.  It's often necessary to adjust the scale.  Of course, there could be other problems as well if you couldn't get any response out of manipulators in the content window.

Anglu ( ) posted Sun, 16 November 2008 at 2:57 PM

Well, I played with the scale-dial, but nothing happened. First I thought the camera is inside the modell, because I only saw white... but I changed the background colour to blue, than I saw only blue.
And as I said, I also couldn't see the other figures in the scene. Until I deleted the ship.

nyguy ( ) posted Mon, 17 November 2008 at 7:12 AM

Can you open it with UVMapper?  It sounds like there is a good chance the normals are flipped. I get allot of that with obj files from that site.

Hm. It's woth a try.

Anglu ( ) posted Mon, 17 November 2008 at 1:39 PM

Well, it loads into UVMapper and I see the map, I just don't know how to make a map that will be useful for texturing.. fg

nyguy ( ) posted Mon, 17 November 2008 at 2:12 PM

Okay I counted 4 on the site and 3 of the 4 is in 3ds. I would try the 3ds file with out converting.

3ds doesn't work in Daz|Studio. Can't import that format.

nyguy ( ) posted Mon, 17 November 2008 at 3:17 PM

Download the  3DWin this is a free 3d converter. download the 3ds file then convert it to Obj using 3dwin. If you are still having issues please let me know by site mail and will see if I can help out in any other way.

okay I  just did this. Downloaded and extracted  the 3ds file. Converted to an Obj file with 3dWin. Imported the obj file at 500% of poser.  Works fine.

Looks good, but... I have a mac, meaning I can't run the programm...
Can't you just give me the converted files?

nyguy ( ) posted Tue, 18 November 2008 at 5:47 AM

I will have to look at the site's EULA about redistributing the files.

Hmm...

I read your earlier post as well.

I don't know what the problem is.  If you are constantly getting 404'd, it's probably not that site.  You need to check your security settings first.  I have no problem there and I run fairly secure settings myself.  So, I sort of doubt that's your issue.

If you can't see ANY pictures of the models and get a 404 when you click on the links, the only thing I can think of is somewhere along the line you are blocking something.  Check your firewall/router/software firewall/antivirus and ESPECIALLY any adblocker/anti-adware/anti-spam tools.  Sometimes, those install helper objects in your browser to keep you from stepping on internet land-mines....

If you can see some of the pictures but when you go to download the model you either can't or there isn't a link, that means that the mesh was only stored for data.  It's an archival system analyzing topology, not a simple model database.  Almost all of those meshes are available in full freebie packages from their host sites.  Other meshes are proprietary and the engine protects them while still cataloging their topology.  So, you may not be able to download a mesh because it is proprietary/commercial.   A reference saying so will appear where the link for downloading (upper right) would normally be.

What country are you accessing from?  I'm in the US and don't have any issues.  It's remotely possible there is a country block for your country accessing that site.  There are ways around that though but, I'd never suggest them...

Fett713 ( ) posted Mon, 01 December 2008 at 11:19 PM

Lol you lost me after like firewall and internet landmines rofl, I'm in Pennsylvania USA, so I don't know, and nah I dont see any of the pics of the models at all, never have, I was there several times over the 2 years I've been into this wonderful art with yall, and never any luck. I've tried IE7, firefox, my msn browser, and yeah I have a decent firewall and pop up blocker etc, but usually I don't have any troubles. By the way I'd have no idea how to turn them off or lower there level of filtering or whatever lol. Only issues I've had over 2 years of freeby hunting/content purchasing is like evilinnocence and aprilsvanity I have to go to their sites and download or purchase on firefox or ie7 my msn browser thier files come as html thingys that fringewood tried to describe to me lmao!! which I guess require ie7/firefox to open/read/download. So any help or suggestions would be grand, I could use more star wars stoofs =/.
