I finally managed to put together a image...

I don't know if this is the right place to put the image so I hope I am not breaking any rules.

You can put you image in your Gallery. Not sure if you knew. Use the tab at the top of the page that says "Galleries" and then choose "My Gallery"

You are off to a flying star, keep on keeping on.

Thanks Casey...

Also I was wondering if one can save a pose in DAZ. I have a pose that I doubt I can repeat again and I would like to save it as pose that I want to apply on other models.

I see most poses have the .ppz extention and I wondering if only Poser allows a pose to be saved.

Just click on filesave  aspose preset, it will save as a dazscript .ds usable only in Studio.

Glad I could help, hope to see some stunning renders soon.

Thanks Casey.

I'm hoping someone will make a gangster suit for the M4 model with a fedora and wing tip shoes.

Also I'm having trouble applying the poses to other models. I downloaded some free poses and they all appear in my DAZ menu but not the one I created and I can't figure out how to apply to the other model lol.

casey42 ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2008 at 9:54 PM

If you pose the character and then select it you can click on file saveas posepreset and save the pose in any directory you choose it will be in a dsb file named whatever you name it. I put a directory under content called casey42 and a subdirectory in it called poses then I save my poses with a name  that I can remember what the pose does, you can even save animations this way.

DocHaze ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2008 at 11:31 PM

Ok thanks... I will find it and move it to a folder I can remember lol.

Hey Casey if I wanted to put the pose in my free stuff, how do I do that, is there a tutorial on how to save files you want to put in the free area. I created a character I want to add there.

Much appreciate your help.

casey42 ( ) posted Tue, 25 November 2008 at 6:34 PM

To put a pose into free stuff for use in DAZ Studio just use the .dsb file, that is all that is needed, if you want poser users to be able to use it then you will have to export it from Studio as a pz2 using the poser exporter,  I have never used it but I am sure someone who has will come along and explain it. If not perhaps you cold contact Richard Hasseltine (sure hope I spelled that right). Richard has  a list of tuts that cover nearly all subjects.

Thanks Casey. Much appreciated.

Yeah I have no idea what a poser exporter is. I spoke with RH once before regarding V4, at the time I had no idea what skin texturing was, he set me right on that.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Wed, 26 November 2008 at 8:18 AM

Poser Format Exporter is pretty simple. I'll assume you ahve the updated version here:

run the script (it's in ContentScriptsUtilities in the Studio folder - if you don't have the Content folder selected as a DAZ Studio content folder it won't show in the Content palette, but you can use File>Merge... to find and launch it).

click the Path: button at the top, select the folder you want to put the Pose in (if you are aiming for Poser, that will be RuntimelibrariesPoseSomefolderofyourchoice - I'd suggest creating a new folder, then the Runtime etc folder in that so that you can simply zip the whole thing up to share without having to separate your stuff from other people's).

type a name, including the .pz2 at the end, into the Filename box

Timeline decides whether you are saving a single pose, or an animated sequence (assuming you have an animated sequence of moves on the figure, of course). Current Frame saves the figure's pose as it is in the viewport, Animated range saves the poses across a series of frames as set with the Start Frame and End frame sliders.

assuming you want to save the pose of the whole figure, leave Nodes at Root and propagation at recursive (if you set Nodes to selected anything that the selected bone is attached to will be excluded from the pose, so you could select the collar to save a pose that affected only the arm; if you set propagation to None then only the selected bones or the root will be saved, depending on your choice for Nodes, not any bones attached to the selected nodes, so with Root for Nodes and none for propagation you could save just the body morphs, or a pose to move the figure to a set place in your scene, without changing the rest of it)

Having "Transforms" ticked saves the pose - the actual positioning of the parts the pose is going to affect; you can exclude certain transforms by unticking them (so untick the translate and rotate options and you can save a pose that will affect only the scale of an item, or untick rotate and scale for the pose I mentioned above to move a fgiure to a seet place in the scene). For a standard pose you'd have Transforms ticked, leave all of the sub-boxes ticked, and untick the other groups.

"Others" includes morph settings - actual morphs (Morphs) and controls like those on the root that set actual morphs (Numeric). I can't immediately think of occasions when you'd not want both checked if you had either checked, you wouldn't include morphs in a standard pose or you'd change any morphs the user had applied.

Finally Attributes allows you to save a pose to switch an item on or off, useful for things like hiding body handles on a skirt, and turn the bend control on and off, not likely to be much used.

So, to save your pose: select the figure, any part of it will do. Run the script. Enter the path and the name of the pose. Uncheck Others. Hit Accept. You will then need a thumbnail - either save a scene or preset from DS and steal the thumbnail from that (name it to match the pose, so for MyPose.pz2 you'd want MyPose.png) or simply make your own 91 pixel square png image (and again, name to match the pose). That should be it.

Richard to the rescue again, thanks Richard.

DocHaze ( ) posted Wed, 26 November 2008 at 2:44 PM

Thanks RH.

I found the Poser exporter in the utilities folder.

And I can use that to save a character as well that I want to put in the free zone? I would just upload the entire folder I think huh.

Yeah I applied the pose to a seperate model but it changed that model's facial features oddly enough. But now you've given me a idea on how to avoid that. Much thanks RH.
