For years I'm looking for a realistic wet hairprop. I know there are some wet hair models but they all have the decent combed-back look, and what I wanted was the wet-and wild look, if someone just came out of the swimming pool or had a full bucket of water poored over his or her head. I even tried to make a hairprop myself, but the results weren't very usefull. Recently I was playing with the Hairroom and I made a mistake with the gravity settings, at that moment I realised that it could be possible to make wet looking dynamic hair, but it needed a different approach, because the physics of wet hair are very different then dry hair:
  1. It's heavier then dry hair because of the water in it, so I had to raise the gravity settings a bit and raise the pulldown settings.
2.It sticks more together than dry hair, so I raised the clumpiness settings (a lot!)
  2. it's more curlier than straight hair so I raised the kink-strength.
  3. Wet hair is darker and shinier than dry hair, so I made a different shader for it.

So I ruined one of Adorana's great dynamic hairpieces and here above is the result, together with Dave Burbicks excellent wet-skin shader.

If someone is interested I can give some screenshots of my hair- and material room settings, I am open for any suggestions to improve it.

Best regards,

Bopper.

That's actually really good...do you have a closeup of it?

I'll make one, but it will take some time. Dynamic hair renders slow.

Oh, I'm well aware, lol.  I've got a scene that looks uncomplicated as all get out, but I did some shader work on some of the figures and the lights, and it's taken me all day to render this, LOL.

Well, here is the close-up, It took some time because I had to redo some recalculations on the dynamics. I'm still not satisfied but it's a start. The problem with dynamic hair is, that there are so many settings. The good thing is like dynamic clothes that it is chaotic and so it will give a more natural look than prop hair, the bad thing is that it makes it impredictable and you have to tweak all the settings, and recalculate over and over again before you get good results.

It's past two in the morning here, so I'm going to bed. Hope I can work on it next friday.

Best regards and goodnight,

Bopper.

That looks great!  I would love to see the material room set up that you used.  And looking at that hair makes me think I should start using dynamic hair.

Ooh, that looks great!  :)  I, too, wouldn't mind seeing the settings.  That's the best dynamic hair I've seen YET in Poser :)  (well, for humans.  Tiny's stuff is really good)

Put me on the list, too. :-)

As promised  I will give the settings of the dynamic hair as well the shadersetttings I used. I'm a little late because I went to Tarzan the musical this evening with my wife and my youngest daughter, but I still had some time to prepair some screenshots. I made some changes to the shadersettings, because I wanted to add some color to the hair.

above is the latest rendering.

next post will have the settings.

regards,

Bopper.

For the hair I used the free triora hair of Adorana which is available in the freestuff area. The hair is original for V3, but I converted in to Victoria 4 with netherworks hairconversion system. I changed every hairgroup in the hairroom with these settings. Notice that I didn't used the same settings for every hairgroup, with some groups I had to increase the backpull, or give some styling to the hair. But the most important settings are marked by  a red square. (and I made all the hairgroups a little longer then the original) I spent  about three hours on experimenting, so I'm convinced that it's possible to get better results, longer hair perhaps or less curlier. Important is to do a animation, this gives the best results. (start with a zero pose in frame 1, make a pose in frame 15 and do a 30 frame animation.) On my core 2 duo machine with poser pro, it took about five to ten  minutes for the whole animation.

And finally my shadersettings, the anisotropic settings are perhaps not necessary, but it gives some depth to the shaders. The orginal render had only two almost black colors in root andd tip color of the hair node, in the latest render i made the tip color a little more brown to add a little color in the hair. The specular color is a liitle brighter than usual. But I want to do more experiments with this: with blond or brown hair.

Hope this information is usefull.

Best regards,

Bopper.

It certainly is, thanks! I really must get around to tinkering with dynamic hair, and this is a good place to start. Please keep us informed about your other experiments.
