What's the image type? (menu Image->Mode)? Not all filters work in all modes. For example, in Lab Color, Clouds works but Difference Clouds doesn't.

Spedler:
Ok what I did was a new file and then a gradient ,went to render for clouds,no cloud option.
the idea was to make lighting,after some other things.I do not know about the image mode thing?
thanks

When you go to File > New look at the Color Mode before you click OK.  If file is already open go the Image > Mode. If it says Lab Color change it to RGB.

Dreamer101;
I checked and color is RGB.
when you start a new image  and fill it you only have lens(flare,fibers)I am getting very good at making wood.no clouds tho.
thanks

Okay, when you create that new image, and the Color Mode says RGB, next to it there's another drop-down which can either say 8-bit or 16-bit. I think yours probably says 16-bit; the clouds filters won't work in that mode. If that's the case, change it to 8-bit and all will be well.

Oh you are so right Steve! I never even thought of that. My hat's off to you. I shouldn't have jumped in so quickly with only half the answer.

Have to admit I didn't think of it at first, I thought the OP was probably using Lab Color.
