Subject: D|S and my DPI delima....

Dynamo ( ) posted Tue, 09 December 2008 at 9:40 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 2:35 PM

Im starting to consider a move to D|s as i do some render projects with friends.  But I also do Printed poster material.  Does Daz  ouput to higher than 72 DPI (monitor)?   If so How do i achive this?  I usually in Poser output at least to 300 Dpi (Dots per inch) for printing.

Is there a work around?  Is this something Daz itself has commented on?

The only workaround is to render larger.  It doesn't work in DPI, but actual pixels.

Would rendering larger solve the print issue do you think? im so used to size being irrelevant to resolution for printing?

Ps thank you for answering Im sort of workflow paralyzed until i sort it all out.

PPi is just a number at the start of the file telling the output software how big each pixel should be - as long as you have the right number of pixels (300 times the size you want to print at) then you can either leave ppi at 72 and scale the image to the right size or open in an image editor, change the ppi with resample off (so the pixel count doesn't chnage) and save. It isn't as convenient as entering the physical dimensions and resolution, but the net result is the same.

Thanks, i shall give that a shot.

Also, make sure you render to a new window.  When I first started out, I was told the same thing you were about making sure your pixel sizes are correct (for example, if I want an 8x10 image to render at the equivalent of 300 dpi, I change the pixel dimensions to 2400x3000).  I learned by trial and error that the all-important "new window" radial dial needs to be checked or you still end up with a low res image :-)
