Subject: Installing Carrara content - confused

Klebnor ( ) posted Sat, 13 December 2008 at 9:12 AM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 2:58 PM

I just got a bunch of content from GKDantas (GIDomes, Leaves, SSS) and I am never sure how to install these items.  I have a carrara runtime set up, and some things seem to load there and be available in the content browser.  It seems others, like the GIDomes, Leaves and SSS, should be loaded in the Carrara directory and then imported into Carrara.  Is this right, and how do you import them into the browser so they're available?

As I understand it, the content section lists content from poser runtime directories.  I have never tried just creating a directory named runtime and dropping everything into it.  I think you need to have poser installed so Carrara can find it's poser.exe file in order for it to work correctly.  Once that is set up, then just drag and drop from the runtime folder under content.

If I am wrong, someone let me know.

If you need Poser, I believe Poser 6 is on sale at Content Paradise for $29.99 or some very low price like that!!! Sorry can't link to that or I would!!!

For the carrara content that is not stored in Poser library runtimes, I always "hand load" the content after installing first to a blank folder. I have a PC, so using windows, I go to the applications > DAZ> C6 folder and drag and drop the carrara content into the folders there. The new content has the names of the folder they go into.
When I do it like this, it always works. The content will be found in tabs like "scenes" and "objects". Some of the content will be found inside special functions. For instance: when you build a plant, you click on options and there are the new plants you bought!

Hi Klebnor, you dont need Poser to use my packs...

GIDome are for lightning your scenes (any scene)

Real Leaf are new leaves for Carrara trees

SSS can be used in any character (Poser or not) or even in objects to simulate the translucency from some kind surfaces.

To learn more about  those packs just take a look at those videos that I did:

http://www.vimeo.com/1196584

http://www.vimeo.com/1196541

To instll the packs just point the installer to your Carrara 6 directory and the installer will do the rest for you.
If you have more questions just let me know.

Thanks

I have poser 7, and Poser Pro.  I prefer Carrara for a number of reasons.  I have also set up a runtime in my poser directory called Carrara into which I load content which is set up with the poser runtime structure.  It is other things Carrara uses and poser doesn't like leaves, GIDomes, Realistic Skies that don't follow the poser structure where I have problems.  Sometimes I can install to a folder I have under Carrara called Carrara Content and then poke around in Carrara until I find a way to see it in the browser, but it seems to me there must be a consistant way to load content.  That's what I'm looking for advice on.

Unfortunately, the documentation for Carrara is not nearly as good as the program is!

Cross post.

GKDantas - using them in Carrara is exactly what I want to do.  I will simply unzip or install to my Carrara directory.  Don't I still have to somehow import them in Carrara?

Where, for example, do I find the GIDome content in the browser?

Thanks,

Klebnor

You are right, sometimes Carrara simply dont add the content to the Browser...

GiDome 1 have two folder that need to be added to the MISC tab:

C:Program FilesDAZCarrara6ProPresetsBackgroundsGIDome1     and

C:Program FilesDAZCarrara6ProPresetsBackdropsGIDome1

The first one are the HDRI like images, and the other are some background colors only.

The better Idea is to add the whole Background and Backdrop folders to the Browser, so everytime something is added it will be showed there.

Finally finished an image.

It doesn't use the GIDome because I haven't quite figured out how to use it yet.  I know I saw a tutorial you did somewhere, I'll search it out.

All the best,
