People have tried to change the shape. AFAIK, no success.
Presumably the internal calculations are based on an elliptical zone shape;
it would take a different sort of calc to use more complicated shapes.

Yes it is possible to change the shape of the magnet zone.
Here I have "tricked" Poser into loading a cone in place of the usual sphere. However you'll notice that the effect has not altered. (Scaling and relative positions of the zones is identical). This leads me to believe that the deformation algorithm is hard coded into Poser and the zone is only there as a visual reference.
So to answer your question, no I do not think it is possible.
There would be million new possibilities on morphing and setting up figures if we could have custom shapes on magnet zones and on joint parameters

I would love a replacement of the whole magnet 'paradigm'... the GUI and three part structure is nothing but a pain... what I would want is a "zone of influence" tool... props such as a box, ball, and/or cone that had parameter dials effecting the deformation of mesh falling within its volume with a dial for falloff. Then maybe a separate set with a control element and two mirroring "zones". No more mess of magnet parts, the possibility of saving a magnets complete set-up in a cut-and-paste of the parameters etc. William_the_Bloody's UMM is very close to ideal aside from the need for poses to establish which elements are deformed. UMM is very nice for adding subtle asymetries to a figure I find. The V4 Xana tool is a magnet rig that is quite powerful and very easy to use... I even wonder what it would be like if figures came with Xanna type rigs embeded in them in place of FBM's... I don't actually know which is more 'econmical" for Poser, FBMs or Xanna.I requested that in the STICKY "Want to help shape the future of Poser?" thread.

I't is a pity. I wish to have egg shape zones for deforming ankle areas. Rounded trapezium would be nice to deform soft seats under figure, flat zone to deform figure sitting or laying on floor. Okham made python Eureka which did sth similar but sometimes it is very slow.
Momodot - what is UMM?
PhilC - Is it possible copy/paste falloff graph from one zone to another? I know that it is possible saving magnet as a prop, but editing pz2 file is annoying.

Have you tried my Group2Morph script? I find it useful for face morphs especially. You use the group tool to select the area, then the script gives you variable rounding and precise control in any direction.My python page

A bit pricey but if you like magnet work it is really the best solution... allows very fine work not possible with standard magnets.The product consists of controler props that loads slaved magnet pairs... the magnets are hidden from the user and controled from the single parameter panel of the controler. The dials are very intuitive and subtle... control over zone size and translations is very fine. The only complaints I have are that poses are used to set which elements are deformed and that it is hard to remove the complex magnet sets from a scene. I would have prefered the library had magnets preset to different body regions in the library rather than having to keep track of which mags relate to which utility poses.

I wonder if there is any possiblity to make magnet zone non symetrical. Deforming zone has no influence to magnetized object. I've tried to read pz2 mag file, but I cannot find there any information refering mag zone shape - only obj.
Does anybody tried to do this before?
