is there a script to remove materials from a .cr2 so they don't show up in the material room?

No, you have to edit them out with either a text editor or one of the specialised Poser file editors.
Also don't forget to remove any unused materials from the corresponding OBJ (and possibly MTL) files otherwise they'll reappear (with a random colour).

Thanks nruddock,
I used a bone structure from one of my models in the setup room on another model I made and the material zones were transferred to the new figure.

I deleted these material zones in the .cr2 and they do not show up in the material room.  But when i load the object that the material zones were removed from I get a window saying "}" cannot be found.

The Poser Pocket Knife has the delete surplus materials tool that you require.

Do you mean remove the material zones , or just set the texture back to a basic white ?   I have a script somewhere to clear materials  or you can just do one manually and use the Apply to All option in the material room pulldown , top right.
