PD154 ( ) posted Sun, 08 February 2009 at 11:09 AM

LOL never was really that bothered Piet my friend,  one of the things I like most about these forums is we can all knock one another in good fun, we all know there is nothing in it all and it's jut good clean fun, Bill mentioned that he had other crystal animals, I too have a dolphin and an eagle, which I may shoot tonight under differing light conditions...Have a great week Piet

I got laryngitis and feel like crap.  The flashlight is gonna have to wait.  :(  I'm not very motivated to be creative right now.  I hope you can hear me okay ... my voice is pretty much totally gone!!

But Tara we can see you perfectly...you mean you don't look as cheery as your avatar today? :-)

I have had a real CRAP!  of a cold for the last three days Tara, and my throat was also very sore last night even, I had a few shots of scotch in hot Joe, feel pretty good today I have to say, get well soon sweetie :)

Thank you, my dears!  I'm going to go take a nap.  Maybe when I get up I'll feel better.  (I think my avatar is annoyingly cheerful today.   Who IS that woman??)

well better late than never, here's my first contribution, taken about half an hour ago here in my room. it's been snowing and is sub-zero outside so this is a necessary and pleasing sight on returning from the outdoors!

I'm very impressed by all the entries so far, too many to mention all of them but really liked Piet's led thing, and Fenton and Jeroni's (particularly the floating candle) submissions... looks like everyone's having good fun, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for more potential lighting uploads in the coming days,

Thanks everyone!

Ronnie:  It sure does.  So much to learn! Ugh.

Bill:  Inside of a toaster, hmmm. Nice shot. And oh yeah, I'm imagining!

Piet:  I will do my best to finish this challenge (and many others after this one)!

And feel better, Tara.  Get lots of sleep.  Best medicine there is.

Here's my second entry, this uses a different technique from the elephant, that used a table lamp and difused frontal flash, this one was taken with a mixture of tungsten light and a small daylight flourescent tube, and the camera set to the flash off mode

Hope it's what you had in mind!

I want that, it's awesome, as a passed fractal formula writer and artist, i appreciate a nice spiral, such a pretty blue here, that isn't easy for sensors to capture, nice one!

Well about time! Welcome to Adam and Jodie, I hope you have fun. I love the snowed corkscrew. It's NOT a corkscrew! :-| Both you and Ronnie opted for a cooler atmosphere which is great, while Adam's is warm. We see one very important aspect of lighting and that's mood.

I wish you all well for the week ahead, mine has already started.

Ronnie, these crystal figurines realy looks good in semi low light.

Adam, Wonderful warm light. Bet anything this is a best place in the house.

Love the blue tree.

Bill, the toaster is very clever thinking.

Lovely light reflection on the water.

Here is my 2nd entry. Hubby's watch in a dark and a face flourescent.

This is all going SO WELL..

*Bad news ... I have no camera to shoot new stuff with :(  When I was away 2 weeks ago, I'm afraid I left behind my nikon battery charger & 2 batteries, along with my cable for my sony cybershot ... I is screwwwed... I had to order new charger and battiers ... no new cable yet for the cybershot tho.  Can't wait to get it in the mail .. should be late this week or early next.

Tiz, man, that sucks!  Did you pay extra for faster shipping?  I know I would have!

Jodie, that's an outstanding and moody shot.  I like!

Okay, here is my second one for the challenge.  I know, it's already been done, but I wanted to see what I could get with low light and playing with the WB.

Funny thing is, this is the last shot out of about 10 that I took. (And let me tell you, it was getting hot in that kitchen! lol!).  As soon as I saw this one on the display, I thought, 'That's it!  That's the one!'.  I love that feeling.

here's my second one.. I took this earlier this afternoon about half an hour before the sun set. the low afternoon sun casts great light into this room for a short period each day when it's clear, and can be excellent natural sidelighting for portraits.. the window of which you see the shadows is reflected in the glass front of the drinks cabinet, and I thought it'd be fun to include a bit of my shadow too.... it may look like I'm taking a sip from a mug but that's the camera's lens with hood attached... well both my ones so far have been from inside the home, going to take my time and make my final one outdoors-y .... looking forward to more great entries, the standard is pretty good this month and much fun to watch =)

I love all the stuff you've been posting, everybody!  I'm still sick, haven't got the energy to set up the tripod and the flashlight (even though they're RIGHT OVER THERE and I can see them from here)!  I've got plenty of lovely light shots, but I really want to try new things for this challenge.

Jodie, that pic of your daughter belongs out in the gallery!  It's gorgeous.  :)

Ok, I've managed to steal a few moments to myself (husbands should never be allowed to be sick or injured!!!) this evening and snagged this interesting shot of windows and street light from the next two houses over.

I was hoping that my window's blind slats would show up a little better, but felt lucky that I managed to put up the tripod, attach the cable to snap the shutter and focus through the camera eyepiece. I didn't want the neighbors to think I was doing the peeping Tomette thing so I had to do all my set up in the dark.

Eventually I am also getting around to the forum challenge! WOW - what amazing images you have all placed and what an exciting subject Shari!!!!

My first attempt was taken this past Sunday in a shop in the Monte Cassino Mall that sells semi-precious stones and interesting rocks etc. This chrystal chandelier was hanging from the roof and I just loved how it picked up the light.

This is my second attempt - also shot in the Monte Casino Mall at a fountain in one of the many cobbled stoned courts! The light is very low to give this particular part of the Mall the feel of evening. I shot a close up of one of the water streams from the fountain hitting the water below and the slow shutter picked up the reflected light in these worm like patterns. I kinda like how it came out...

So many new entries filled this page since my last visit I won't even attempt to comment on all. The results speak for themselves as i couldn't find one mundane capture amongst the entries. One thing is certain and that is the creativity involved. Kudos to you all!

Allow me to welcome Carin though, now we are two South Africans joining forces in your midst.

David I can't wait to see what you plan on posting here especially after your recent studio series.

I am not going to enter my last one yet! However, I was tempted to scan the galleries to see which pictures could easily be entered into the challenge. I am amazed at the different qualities of natural light throughout the picture. What do you think?

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1830685

Are there any you notice after being sensitized by the challenge?

Edit: Welcome to Jody, I am glad you joined the challenge with the moon captures!

Hola, everybody!  I'm feeling much better today.  Perhaps three doors down from death, instead of right at his door.  LOL!  I was able to talk to a friend today for about half an hour before I started to cough my head off, and that's a major improvement!

So.  I got out the flashlight and the tripod and went to town.  Flashlight is off to the right and about four inches up (I balanced it on a box lid - flashlight is a 6-cell mag light).  Computer monitor was on, about three feet off to the left.  All other lights off.

I shot my headphones with the same setup, but Ronnie thinks I'm a copycat, so I'm gonna post those out in front where he has to be a gentleman.  LOLOL!!!

Welcome back in the land of the living Tara!

I am trying to distinguish the effects of the two light sources but I am not sure I am correct in my conclusion, the effects are good though, so I would just sit back and enjoy the warm glow with the light spots all over.

LOL @ the Ronnie comment :)
