Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 14 7:46 am)
These are files that you probably can afford to keep, they're only occupying 1mb or so. Shaders can do amazing stuff, check out the Shaders sticky at the top of this page for much more in depth info.
Hair Shaders can add some subtle but significant enhancements to renders, and are the kind of thing you might regret dumping the more you learn about Poser
Shaders themselves usually are less than 5K bytes - tiny. The images (texture files) they use can be big but you need those for most products regardless of whether you use them with shaders or just stick them straight onto the item.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Oh my...you are serious about streamlining Poser! (just read your other thread).
3Dave is right....you want to keep the shaders....they are awesome stuff and you might just kick yourself later on if you trash them.
Once you get used to Poser, and wander into the Material Room, you'll see what all the fuss is. LOL! And when you do...check out BB's threads on such stuff as shaders, nodes and what not: he's da MAN where all that is concerned.
Apply the MATs and have a look at them in the Advanced Material Room.
You will see that the "no shader" MATs are basically Poser 4 compatible, good for quick preview renders or if you export your scenes to some other apps for rendering. I use them when I want to mess around with the material, it saves a bit of time deleting all the extra nodes. I also use them if a figure is in the background of a scene when details/effects are not so important.
On the other hand if you are doing a portrait or close up render then you will want to use the "shader" MAT.

Please spay and neuter your pets. Strongly consider shelter
adoption before spending $500 to $1000. If you MUST part with that
kind of money for a pet, go to your local shelter, donate the money
to them and pickup a highly adoptable pet. The shelters could sure
use the donation.

Gretings All,
Loading my New P6 and being very conscious about space therefore don't want any extra files than what are necessary. I purchased chocolate hair by Valea (incredible) and in the MATs folder I have a "no shader" and "shader" files that look exactly the same. Would some one be so kind as to explain the differences, and which one should I keep?
Many Thanks in advance for your time,
Viper
