Subject: Weilding/Joining Dynamic cloth

I just recently bought BillyT's wonderful V4/A4 Nurse set ( http://market.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=70083&Start=91&WhatsNew=Y ) but I actually want to use it for V3. I've exported the clothes as an .obj and .3ds and then tried importing the object and using it as dynamic cloth. Everything is fine until I use the clothes room.

The suit itself is like a wrap and has several morph targets to open and close the suit in certain areas. When the cloth room starts calculating dynamics, the suit opens and falls on the body as though it's unbuttoned. Is there a way to get the suit to remain whole in a "closed" buttoned state?

I even tried creating a prop using the grouping tool from the imported object but to the same effect. Am I selececting the wrong options on exporting/importing the object or am I missing an option in the clothes room? Any help would be appreciated.

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a program that will covert V4 clothes to V3 pretty much perfectly?

It can be done. I've used the trick in my free V4 Office set, on the blouse. If you downlad it from freestuff and see how I've set up the soft decorated group on the front of the blouse, you may be able to emulate the trick on the nurse outfit.

On the other hand, converting from V4 to V3 can probably be done using either Wardrobe Wizard (PhilC) or Morphing Clothes (Dimension3D).

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter

Hi, thanks for the reply. I've just downloaded your V4 office set which looks incredibly cool! I looked at the soft decorated group and I see what you've done by selecting the points either side of the central seam.

I tried to edit your blouse further but nothings happening, the same when I try to edit the prop that I've made. I select a vertex or point but nothing appears selected (red) I'm fairly new to the grouping tool so again I may well be doing something wrong lol.

I haven't this suit and it is possible that mesh is very difficult to use as a dynamic.

Anyway you can try use "constrained" group.
Select single vertex under buttons and in each place which should stay stable.
You cannot select some vertex, because its are under button, so calculate few frames dynamic first. Button should fall down and unhide vetrex which should be "constrained".
When you selected constrained vertex, select belt as a "soft decorated" (use "add material" in grouping tool window), select button as rigid decorated.

Hi, again thanks for the reply.

I've just tried what you've explained but still for some reason when I try to edit any of the groups in the cloth room nothing gets selected, same if I work in reverse by selecting all and deleting the vertex's. I'm really not sure what's up.

Is there no way to export the mesh as a whole object or is that a no purely because of the way it's constructed?

I've been looking for a nurse suit in this style for so long and now that I've actually found one I'm so disappointed I can't use it with the V3 figure. I tried contacting BillyT to see if he would consider a V3 version but have yet to see a reply from him.

I don't have the nurse set either, but judging from other items of his that's the way he works. He uses several sections grouped together, but not actually joined; and since the vertices aren't coincident, you can't weld them. So no chance of using them as dynamic cloth unless you were to rebuild the model. Sorry about that. :(

Can you add pictures (best wireframe) of nurse set after calculating dynamic? Preferably 3-5 and 20 frames.

In my clothes animations I used "dummy" buttons.
Loaded low poly ball prop xscale 10, zscale 10, yscale 100. Such ball/stick I thrust in chest through the clothes and added it to collision list. Later I set transparency to 1. This prop is usefull because you can transfer/remove it in frame when shirt should be unbuttoned.

And last - I'm sorry if I ask about obvious thing, but...
Did you selected body parts which should collide against clothes?

OK, I've tried a few things, learnt that if I use the grouping tool in the pose room to create the "constrained, rigid and soft decorated" groups in the pose room I can then later add them using the grouping tool whilst editing the groups in the cloth room. It hasn't made much of a difference though apart from the buttons kind of turning into spikes. The dress still falls in an open state.

I don't quite understand what you mean by dummy buttons, I did create a bunch of balls and placed them inside the buttons so they cover both sides of the seam where the dress opens and also through the buttons. Is that what you meant? and if so how do you go about adding to the collision list? To collide against or to ignore or what... I'm a bit lost =)

I could post screenshots but to see the detail of wireframes, the jpegs are about 300k each, is it ok to post a number of these inside the thread?

I've had some better results by draping the cloth, exporting the draped item and then importing it again so it fits as default. Then going into the setup room to make the item a conforming dress but the mesh appears to "tear" in a couple of places around the breasts and at the hip/crotch area. Again, is there a way to weld these tears so the figure can bend without the tearing?

Finally, Wardrobe wizard is pretty expensive, I did buy the original a while ago but of course that doesn't support V4 /sigh. Is it really perfect in converting or is it just kind of make do?

The limit is up to 200K per post, if I remember it right. Save your JPEGs with a higher compression (if using Photoshop, use "save for web"). If that doesn't give enough detail, maybe try a few well-chosen close-ups?

It has to be said that cloth room conversion methods won't be perfect either - nothing will. And WW will make a better job on some meshes than on others, that's inevitable. I personally believe it was worth the money, but I'm prepared to put in some work correcting its output with magnets or modelling, or doing postwork to overcome any blemishes there may be. Your mileage, as they so often say, may vary...

Here you have example of using dummy prop. You can see it as a red stick in the right part of chest. It is made with ball. Parented to chest and added to collision list. Before rendering material should be set transparent and prop will be invisible.

Converting clothes with dynamic room is easy if you use "one-piece" clothes. Before you try convert convert clothes with separate parts (for example belt, straps, ties etc) try something easier. It helps you understand what happend if something is going wrong.

BTW I've used Ishiro conforming shirt. Loaded obj welding identical verticles and calculated dynamic.

Ref your image you can place it on external host (messyshare or imagevenue) and send us link .
Ref WW - It is expensive but all PhilC softwares are worth theirs prices.
