Subject: Another V3 Post "Please read and comment"

Is there a real reason why vendors have stopped producing items for V3?
"Or at least, make cross overs from V4 to V3" (That way there's money to be made by all and no buyer's left standing on the side of the road looking at all the pretty new things for V4 only)

BAR-CODE ( ) posted Wed, 04 March 2009 at 1:22 PM

yes there is a good one i think ... V3 things sell less and less.. and V4 things more and more...

Thats the same reason they dont make products for Beta max video recorders anymore...

A floppy is something used to store data that has been received across your 300 baud modem.

Aww... all the good jokes are taken...

Well, might as well make an on-topic post. First time for everything, I s'pose.

I think it's largely an issue of creative people being the sorts to need to seek out new challenges. When a new figure comes along, the texture, prop, and clothing makers jump on to it, leaving them less time for the older figures they've done work on already.

Another likely possibility is that people who do it for income see accessories for older figures as having diminishing sales. I don't imagine they sell a lot of dresses for Victoria 2 here, for example.

After that, it kind of becomes self-perpetuating... people buy the new figures to take advantage of the new stuff, they get the new stuff and ignore the old stuff, people make more of the new stuff to take advantage of the shift in the market, and it goes 'round and 'round.

Let's skip the creative part.... a lot (perhaps most) of the new stuff for V4 is the same old over again.

I guess the main reason is sales. While V3 products may well still sell good, since a lot of people don't use V4 yet, V4 items do sell better. The V3 market is a bit saturated, the V4 market isn't.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

I still have a few projects for V3 that I haven't finished. Thing is they don't move well here so when finished they go elsewhere. :) All my V3 stuff was moved to DDU when it lost sales here. Same with M3. Guess I'll finish some other stuff and finialize the V3 products and if there is any interest, I'll submitt here again.

Yet.
But you hit the nail on the head.
It will be the same stuff again and again and again and...yet it sells.

Hmmm, if the market isn't saturated for V4, why are Daz and Renderosity turning down so many products for her????

I was told in the Daz forums that if I do submit a V4 product, it really has to be exceptional or it will be refused.

And in the forums here there is talk that V4 is being cut back on.

Makes it hard to know wht to do....sigh.

Perhaps she isn't as popular as they want to make us believe? Could be.

But I do think something else is going on. I've got the feeling that this may well be the effect of the crisis. People may have changed their spending habits. I can imagine if someone is going to buy an item, instead of clicking the buy button as they used to do, they now think twice before spending the money. Something really has to be worth it. Personally I only buy exceptional quality items. All the other stuff doesn't stand out anymore. I've got enough of the same same in my runtimes.

Second thing is the clothes converters...... I'm sure they take away a huge chunck of the merchants business. Why in the world would I want to buy similair outfits over and over again for different figures, if I can convert them myself? I only buy what I cannot convert.... in other words something I haven't seen before or I don't have a similair item of in my runtimes.

Third thing is that the poser market is way to small for the huge numbers of merchants that are operating on it. There are so many people making stuff that stores need to make choices. Again the problem is that most of these merchants make the same stuff as everyone else. There have been quit some complaints in the past here and at DAZ why in the world they're selling only items that are so similair to each other. To sell something stores need outstanding items and make a choice what they sell. If they pick short dress from merchant A & B, they're going to refuse the short dress from merchant C & D & E & F & G and so on. Those dresses will not generated enough sales to justify all the work and bandwith these stores have to put into selling them. They simply pick the bests ones and sell them, since they know the quality is exceptional and it will appeal to people. there are way too many merchants in this market, making the same stuff.

The problem is that 90% of the merchants make items that have been done before. On the other hand there are so many areas where stuff hasn't been created for or hardly has been created for. Merchants don't operate in those areas, since they're afraid no one will buy. For example, many poser & d/s user are still begging for men clothes, but the majority of merchants keep on focussing on the girls items, since it sells (according to them). Let's not even go into the toon figures area. The figures themselves do sell very well (and I'm sure the extra content does also), but it's hard to find items for them, especially for the guys, but even for the girls the content is limited. I'm pretty sure that's a huge potential market that is still hardly touched.

Merchants need to get free from this sex sells mentality and start looking elsewhere and learn from people like Faveral, 3D Universe and Stonemason. Top merchants, yet very original and people do buy their stuff.

It all comes down to a saturated market with merchants trying to sell what we already do own. You want my money? Start being original, create something I haven't seen before and I can actually use. In my case it's toon stuff..... I've got almost every 3D universe toon figure there is and 90% of the additional items that have been created. I do own 90% of Rodi Designs items. I'm now in the process of buying all of the3Dzone's items. There some items I haven't bought, but they do lack the quality I'm looking for. Don't want a high quality figure with low quality clothes, that doesn't work well. I don't buy V3 or V4 items anymore, got too much of those already. I do still buy stuff for Hiro3 and Aiko3, but only if it stands out. Aiko4 and Hiro4 I don't need, they add nothing new to what Hiro3 and Aiko3 already have, for me they're actually a step backwards, so I don't use them. M4 and V4 don't interest me, they offer me nothing beyond M3 and V3.

Theres still a ton of stuff for V3 out there- you
just have to go looking. I know cause I'm still
buying stuff for V3. V4 was sort of a let-down
for me that was until I bought Amber V4.2, I
like V4 a lot better now. I wish those folks would
make a V3 loaded that way. I'd be super happy
then!

Hmm, if I were a modeller instead of a texturer, I'd go for doing the men's clothes, and hair, but alas. :) Maybe when my other projects are done I'll just concentrate on learning modeling, I know I can learn it, I know I can. :D But first of all, gotta get this machine working right. It got messed up when I installed my server's security suite. Darn program treated everything like a threat and locked me out of some important commands. Then it wouldn't let me in to adjust it's settings. So tomorrow they are sending techies out to fix it all and goodbye stupid security suite and hello Zone Zlarm.

My biggest complaint is that merchants always make things for V4 but never for the Mil Kids.  I wish I knew how to make stuff from a 3D modeling program because the Mil Kids would have more for them.

Originality is much harder than just copying other's success.  That just a matter of course.  When people come up with new things, sometimes loads of people buy them, sometimes not.

Of course this horse has already run, broke a leg, died, and has been now flailed boneless!

I still look at the V3 stuff over the V4 and M4.  The textures are a mess, and the hands do not have hand-grasp dials, and there are problems the armpits, and M4 doesn't have private parts, unless you want to have a penis for him.

I mean BUY him a penis.  Which is better than renting him one?:laugh I lost my train of thought in the train-yard of my mind on that one!

Anyway....V4 and M4 turned out to a LOT of people like Windows:Vista.  Some people like it. Some don't. A lot of people bought it and don't know why it doesn't work the way they thought it would.

Sort of like the weird situation with DAZ right now. Seems like I don't like them any more, and I'm sure what they did to drive me off. Weird.
