I checked the new skaeser link you mentined ...

They are fancy ... they have the right color temperature - 5600K ... and expensive.

I don't know how to compare the light output (intensity) of the Bescor I saw on Adorama ... but you could buy almost 10 of the Bescor for the price of 1 of the FN-300 kits.

I would call Adorama for advice ... toll free: 800-223-2500.

well what i want to be able to do is still use my stands and soft boxes.. so I would prefer to change bulbs if at all possible.. im not real worried about the cost of them.. im more worried about getting the right bulbs to put in them..

because those soft boxes will only clip on to the lights i have..

ok I called
about my flash unit that is burnt out
because i found the site I got it from it was the site I sent you the link to lol DUH!!

and they said the flash does not normaly burn out.. but if i send it back to them with $40 they will replace the bulb because it has to be sodered in..
now this thing has a fuse on it.. im thinking maybe its the fuse if the bulb dont burn out

but i took out the fuse and i cant tell.. I would hate to send it in for $40 and come out to be a fuse. something tells me a fuse would be cheaper lol

also i asked about changing the bulbs on the lights that stay on.. and they said you cant go to a higher watt bulb on these....

so my next question is this .. i have 4 of these lights that im stuck with that are not the greatest.
I need a reason to keep them what would i use them for?

im going to go ahead and buy the other flash kit today.. the one i sent ya the link on :-)

Can you take a picture of the fuse? ... and post it in this thread?

Someone might be able to tell if it has blown.

I see that you

asked about changing the bulbs on the lights that stay on

... and their answer was absurd.

Try asking them if the bulb can be replaced with one with Color Temperature 5600K (or thereabouts).  Tell them you are shooting with flash with the softlights as fill-in.  Also ask what can be done to get the softlight boxes to have color temperature of 5600K instead of 3200K.

If they don't understand the question you should NEVER buy anything ... not even a postage stamp ... from them again.

i have 4 of these lights that im stuck with

Ummmmmmmmmm ... eBay? ... craig's list?

The question of studio lights has come up before.

In one of those earlier threads, I suggested the use of a Smith-Victor KT750U Thrifty Basic Kit

After speaking with a tech at Smith-Victor, he told me that the KT750U was limited to using 250 watt bulbs.  He suggested using the KT1000U Thrifty Intermediate Kit which takes a 500 watt bulb.

That KT1000U unit could use their 621920 bulb or an EBW 500W 120V Daylight Photoflood Light Bulb. 4800K.

The Smith-Victor tech also suggested the use of a Rosco filter to correct the light from the softboxes you already have.  You would need to contact them to get advice.

My son said the fuse is not blown so i guess Ill be sending in the flash unit :-(

also I think im understanding temperature of 5600K instead of 3200K now

and I think i asked them the wrong question when i called i asked for a brighter bulb then 1000 watts and i didnt ask about temperature so this could be my mistake ill call them again today..

and ill call smith victor today as well :-)

martin you are so helpful I could hug you lol

now 2 more questions.. is better to have strobe lights or stay on lights is one question

and also what do i need to buy to use my canon speedlite as a flash off the camera like a cord
or something that i can have it pretty far away.. i seen a couple cords but they only go 3 feet away.. i would like to go further then that :-)

use my canon speedlite as a flash off the camera

There are several ways to to do a remote trigger of the flash.

But before we go there, we need to consider that the Canon Speedlite probably controls the flash intensity based on the amount of light that the flash 'sees' coming back (reflected) from the subject.

Whan the flash is not on the camera, the distance from the flash to the subject will be different from the distance from the camera to the subject.  As a result, the image will probably not be properly exposed.
