Bryster only said that to force a response from me... but it ain't gonna work see... i'm retired; I sold off the boxing gloves.
As for Bush, he's using Carrara.... it's easy to tell.... he's not sure what to do next.

It was not my intention to start this little go round, but well done to every one that had a say. It is always healthy to have an opinion. I was a little confused by how little was required for an image to qualify as a bryce entry. I may not agree but I wasn't pushing that point. My enquiry was exactly what I asked. Can I import MY MODELS? I was just making sure. As a purist I would say no. BUT <<NOTE the BUT, as this challenge allows them, I am more than happy to live with the rules for this challenge.

DAM3D ( ) posted Wed, 18 March 2009 at 12:25 AM · edited Wed, 18 March 2009 at 12:28 AM

I understand your point of view Cyba_Storm. I used to think that the Bryce challenges should be 100% Bryce, but ya know, if we did it that way, I think it would limit the amount of entries as well as a lot of peoples capability to create some images that are truly spectacular.

The thing that bugs me is when people import objects into Bryce , render it, call it thiers and never mention where the models came from, or if they say it was all created in Bryce when it is very obviously not 100% Bryce.

I create my own models in Rhino and render them in Bryce and always say where I made the model. I post my stuff in the Bryce gallery because it is BRYCE that makes the image look so good. Without Bryce, I would have nothing but a bunch of models that look very plain.

I am enthusiastic about Bryce, I hope it continues to be developed because it really is very powerful. Did you see my recent "Elmer's Buwwets" ? I surprised myself on that one, Bryce just has some nice power , I give it more credit that I give myself, as I should I think.. :)

Quest ( ) posted Wed, 18 March 2009 at 3:06 AM

Cyba_Storm, I’m no new comer to Bryce. I’ve certainly done my fair share of Bryce modeling. I respect your purist ideology but don’t agree with it. I’ve seen some of your work and it is obvious that you’ve put a great deal of work into your Wings 3D models over a long span of time. I think it’s fantastic and meticulous work.

If I had stipulated that all modeling had to be done using Bryce. The models must be new and of your own construction, meaning they cannot be borrowed from other artists or reused from previous images or works. All special effects must be done solely using Bryce.

As has been seen in the past, only a handful of people would participate, and only those that specialize in Bryce are more likely to. That is not embracing the whole community and many people would be left out. I'll say no more in this regard.

I feel compelled to say one thing here, but only because of it's continuing theme... As challenges go, The Bryce challenge has always, and will always be an enigma to me. Importing is fine, it's part of Bryce, but one has to remember that it is no challenge to import something.....(unless it's 3dsmax LOL!) Creating mostly in Bryce is the challenge.

..and as Quest says "I'll say no more in this regard".... but we both know that would be difficult.

Rayraz ( ) posted Wed, 18 March 2009 at 7:27 AM

U know what, i think the winner of the previous challenge earns the right to set the rules for the new challenge. So anyone who disagrees.. simply has to do their best to win :-P Survival of the fittest! lol

Rayraz, i'm not saying this is how it should be here, and i'm specially not trying to undermine the rules set out by Quest. If you took the time to read it, you'd see i'm just stating a fact.

Rayraz ( ) posted Wed, 18 March 2009 at 7:54 AM

Who is trying to change anything?

Rayraz ( ) posted Wed, 18 March 2009 at 11:43 AM

Honestly i dont know if anyone tries to change anything or if anyone wants to change anything or if we're all just randomly speaking our mind. All i know is that theres a ton of different opinions floating around and we all are rather aware of those so theres no point in repeating them further.

This doesnt specifically apply only to you dhama, nor to any other users in this thread, in fact im as guilty of this fact as anyone. It's just a thing i realized.

We are now already on the 4th page and sadly very little of those messages are spent with tossing around some creative ideas, show work in progress, sources of inspiration, etc. u know creative stuff supporting the topic of this challenge.

Those pancakes could be made in Bryce easy enough....but the bunny is obviously an import....and the background is really nothing more than a photo.....so, it would never be allowed in the Bryce Gallery, let alone the challenge....but, it's a nice try weezerhopw!

I'm afraid the bunny with the pancake would not qualify as an entry to the current challenge.

As long as someone built the mesh, texured it, and replaced the pan cake with some alien teleport disk, and placed it in stange setting, I can't see why not. : )
