Subject: where can I find...?

arkaf ( ) posted Sun, 29 March 2009 at 11:18 AM · edited Thu, 25 July 2024 at 7:45 AM

I am a complete newbie with poser. I was able to fumble around and figure out this and that but mostly have no idea of what I am doing. I read the manual and checked the tutorials but I am more of a visual person, I need to see it not read it.
I have been looking trough many tutorials but they are all more advanced ( I'm sure I will want to learn about lighting , morphing etc later but not yet )- or maybe I just need things explained to me as if I was a 2 year old :)
What I need to learn - for now - is to just get figures to pose - I teach languages at the elementary level and have plenty of texts and small stories that would benefit from some eyecandy to get the kids more interested. Most stories have the same characters and I thought that if I could learn poser enough to get those images posed according to the story I could illustrate the books and make them more appealing ( Once I have the figures as I need, I can go to paintshop/photoshop and get the rest the way I want )
What I can't find, or don't know where to look, is visual tutorials that will help me with that first step.
Also since I'm at the elementary level big bosom girls are not exactly what I can use, but I can't find much in terms of kids ( pre teens- teens ) stuff.
Can someone help me by pointing me in the right direction?
I would really appreciate.
Thanks
arkaf

The first place I would point you is to Practical Poser 7 by our own DeeCee.  It takes you into Poser at an english level, not technospeak, and gives you some really good help on how to use the program.

Secondly, there are pre-teen and teen figures over at DAZ and you can learn to make your own characters without them being unrealistic.

Poser itself comes with a set of young figures that you could start with. Check the freestuff section for clothes.

Definitely check out Dr. Geep's web site... his tutorials are great, very informative, and they're also quite visual. It's his medium. 😄

The Poser 6 and 7 content packages both include pre-clothed child figures BenCasual and KateCasual.

The Poser 6 content package also includes pre-clothed adult figures JessiCasual and JamesCasual, in case you want a ready-to-roll mum and dad.

There are also non-clothed versions of these figures for dressing in different clothes if you need to.

(edit) oops, x-posting with markschum.... I'll leave it here anyway.

Thank you so much you guys already helped quite a lot:):):)
I"m finally seeing some progress. I was lucky and found this lynda.com poser Cds in the second hand bookstore. I am not sure what they cost new, but I got it for $10.
It's not exactly the suggested one, but it will do until I see if Chapters has the practical poser 7. I already checked it and it seems to make things pretty easy.
I also looked into Dr. Geep's - that site is great!!!!! It's bookmarked now :)
I found out the kids you mentioned that come with poser and I learned how to change the color of their clothes, but it would be more fun to get new clothes for them. I assume I can go look for them - and that they have to be specific to the figures I have. ANd then buy some.
I have one more question though: If I do find some clothes for what I want, how do I get them into poser? Are they an executable file that will automatically put then in the right program and folder? Or do I have to manually put them in a specific folder?
I also found this millennium kids in the Daz site Victoria mentioned and the question is the same. If I buy that how do I get it in poser?
Once again thank you so much to all who answered me, you should see my face when I actually got Ben in a pose very close to what I meant LOL

The DAZ installers are all executables that will put everything where it belongs.

Over here at Renderosity, the zips you download for your addons and such are all zipped from the Runtime so they, too, will put everything where it needs to go.

Check the freestuff here, too, for a lot of accessories.

Online Video tutorials from the Mark Bremmer...I'm doing the Carrara set now and love it and doing Poser 7 just because. It's already been worth the 30 bucks a month and I've only had it about 2 weeks...you can get them on CD too. His style is perfect for newbies...mellow and reassuring..LOL.
