THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Unexpected error...........

Alright fellow Brycers, been a long while since I posted in this here forum, and I ran the usual search, and didnt find an answer. So, here goes.....Just installed the ol' Bryce 6.1 on a second drive, my new 1.5 tb workhorse....the old "c" drive is gettin filled up. Left the first version on the computers primary drive, and installed another version on the new external. Seems to be no conflicts, but, I'm running into a glitch on the newer version(which we all know isn't new, thanks to DAZ). When I try to import an .obp file or .mat file in the create or edit menus, I get an unexpected error(permission error). Uninstalled and reinstalled, and get the same thing. Went to properties and checked and unchecked run as administrator, also did the run in compatability mode, set to Win XP...........all to no avail. Any ideas folks???? Thanks

Hmmmm...are you on a network...is the drive share enabled...can you share other files other than Bryce between drives?

Yep, on a network. Its two installs of Bryce. Everything works except the import function for Bryce objects and materials.

Hey all, isn't this the error msg you get when importing objects, say from Poser, that you just ignore and all is okay?

tempest967 ( ) posted Tue, 31 March 2009 at 10:01 AM

no, this is importing bryce .obp's in the create menu specifically, and when trying to create a new .mat file same thing.......importing from poser or d|s works fine.

Might be worth checking that your new installation files are not set to read-only (especially your presets libraries). If you have anything that has been copied out to CD/DVD and back again, it can inherit the write protection from the removable media.

I’ve just recently started to get problems when working with large Bryce files. I’m also on a home network and everything is usually just dandy but recently trying to save new Bryce files on the older computer has come up with the “ generic  failure” error.

Mind you, I’m using Bryce through my network which is on my older computer from my newer computer and saving Bryce files using my newer computer placing the files on the older computer disk. I sometimes get a “generic failure” error when trying to save the file but if I save the same file on the newer computer there’s no problem.

Thank God for the speed of light computer juicing!

get this when i have imported to many objects in one directory. try making a new directory and then import the object to the new, empty directory.
