Subject: Uploading to gallery

Sambucus ( ) posted Sat, 04 April 2009 at 5:29 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 6:47 PM

Why is it such a struggle to upload to a gallery here. Ive been trying since yesterday but always get an error message that my thumbnail is too big. It is a 190x92 jpg.  If I try a second time I get a different message saying the file doesnt exist.  I seem to get this every time I try to upload until it eventually accepts the image.  Very annoying.

It has to be no larger than 100.

Actually the thumb size max is 200x200.  But it can "weigh" no more than 15KB.  Make sure that it's been saved at a sufficiently "compressed" size to fit into that.

Yeah, the file was 12k. I managed to get it on by not entering a thumb and letting it do it`s own thing. Thanks to both.

One of the easiest ways to create thumbnails is to download and
use Easy Thumbnails from Fookes Software

Let us know how that works out for you.

Comments, please.

I use photoshop "Save for web" for my thumbs. They work on other galleries I post to. I`ll take a look at that app, though, martin.
Carolsassy, you are forgiven He he.

From the upload page:

**100 x 100 px (minimum)
200 x 200 px (maximum)

** Yours was 190x92.....that was the problem 😉

Im an idiot. I was so concentrating on the larger measurement I forgot about the other. Ill have to stop doing these letterbox formats. Thanks for clearing that up,Jumpstartme2.

Actually, letterbox would work fine... just add a border around the image to bring it up to spec. I've seen lots of thumbnails like that.

I don't even make a thumbnail.  Renderosity makes one automatically.  I don't know if that would be good if the pic has anything rated x, since I do fractals which mostly aren't rated x. lol (:

If you've got nudity, you definitely don't want the thumbnail generated automatically, 'cause they don't allow it in the thumbnails.

I've also found that I get more views when there's only a hint of the picture in the thumbnail... it seems to draw people in.

I've never tried it, but the importer says it supports PNG files. You might try making the thumbnail the size you want, then adding a transparent border around it, then saving it as PNG. Wirth a shot, then you can always upload a JPEG if it doesn't work.

Actually, in my case, the automatic thumbnail facility worked just fine. Hadnt noticed that before.  Illl use that in future, save me a job :o)
