Subject: Conforming clothes - please, I need some serious help!

I want to use Poser for a work-related project. So the figures must be decently clothed, and I need a variety. I bought just about all the suitable clothing on the market, and still don't have enough variety (most of them are too skimpy). So I decided to learn to make conforming tops for the G2 females, to have some variety near the face. I used the starter suit for G2 females from English Bob's website and modified the mesh for different necklines and sleeve lengths.

I went through the setup room and grouping process several times and very carefully. I borrowed the skeleton from the Sydney development rig figure and deleted the unnecessary bones. I made sure that I had no ungrouped or multi-grouped faces.

My top is now called Sydney (how do I change the name of the garment?)

My top, by itself, will assume any of the poses for the G2 females, shapes correctly and doesn't tear (I solved that problem).

However, when trying to conform it to the Sydney figure, I get a dreadful mess, with the top tucking itself under her arm (image attached). I am desperate for help. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?

You can change the displayed figure name by selecting the Body and editing the name field in the properties window. Window > Parameter Dials > Properties. After editing hit the Enter key to make it take effect.

The applied Sydney bones probably have some preset bends in them. To remove these unwanted presets from the clothing:-

Load the clothing
Figure > Use Inverse Kinematics > turn all off
Open the Joint Edit Window
Click the Zero Figure button
Select the hip, set all translations to zero.
Select the Body, set all translations to zero.

Finally "bake in" this zero pose by going to Edit > Memorize > Figure
Save back to the library.

The clothing should now conform to the figure correctly.

Be aware that Sydney is also based around using joint-controlled magnets to affect clothing during bending - there is a pose file "PosePoser 7SydneyG2AddDeformers" that should be run on the clothing figure, after it is conformed onto Sydney.  This extends the influence of the magnets built into Sydney so that they also affect the conformed clothing.

I really appreciate the assistance. PhilC, I would not even have been in a position to ask questions here if it had not been for your tutorial on making clothing. I followed all the steps in your instructions. I still get the same result:

Looks to me like the problem is either with the chest or the collars.  Are you sure the polygon groups for your shirt's collarbones areas have the exact same internal name as their associated bones? you don't have rCollar and lCollar reversed maybe?

The names match the bones and they are not reversed, I just checked. I let Poser autogroup first and then worked from there, I did not change any group or bone names. I thought perhaps I had some stray faces double grouped or in the wrong group, but the group editor shows no problems.

Oy. I took another look. It seems that somewhere along the way I broke the skeleton. I think I had better try again with the setup room. pjz99 you pointed me in the right direction. The problem was with the bones after all. Thank you.

Nobody said this was going to be easy...

I know how it is, it can be really annoying.  It doesn't help that Poser has to chop up the OBJ, and there's also a hard core bug with joint orientation that sometimes appears, that I wonder if they'll ever fix.
