Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys for birthday wishes!

I can totally relate to 'old enough to laugh at it all'.
I hope my health holds up few more years.

According to Nial, the guy who raises those Bengals, they seem to take naturally to the wheel right from kitten-hood.  However, not all cats will. But it seems that it's pretty innate with Bengals. All of his love the wheel. His one non-Bengal kitty doesn't.

Awww! You're too sweet!

I needed to spend some money to make myself feel better because I had such a crummy evening at work thanks to a passive-aggressive witch working this evening. For the past 2 months she has purposefully been working to make not only my job more difficult but also my work environment.

I tried to talk to her this evening to tell her that she needs to show some professionalism and start treating me with the same professionalism and courtesy that she affords every other staff member there.  She got all aggressive and confrontational on me and caused a scene.

I ended up writing up a 2 page letter and left it for my manager. In the letter I told her that if this person's abusive behaviour towards me continues, I am going to report it to Employee Relations and my Union.
I'm so upset that I can't sleep and I had a cry :(  Ever since I went off work on disability, I haven't been able to handle confrontation. It totally upsets me and stresses me out to no end :(

Anyway, to get back on the topic of kitties.

I took my youngest, Abby, to the vet a couple weeks ago to get a chickpea sized  lump on her head looked at. I was almost 100% certain that it was just an unsightly cyst, but I'm not a doctor or a vet, so I wanted a second opinion.  Turns out it was just a benign epidurmal cyst, which is what I thought it was.  Total cost for them to just look at her head and feel the lump?  $172.00!!!  I didn't have them remove it. It's just cosmetic. When she goes in for her dental in a couple months I'll have them remove it then while she's already under anaesthetic.

My oldest kitty, Chynna, is going to be 18 years old this month!!!  She adopted me on May 6th and she was about a year old, or so I figured.  It's possible that she might have been a bit younger but it's hard to tell once they have their adult teeth.

Acadia, when they get up around 18, a year or so either way is no less impressive! We need to mark the 6th on the calendar, so we can have a virtual kitty birthday party!

We had a major blow-up at work 2 weeks ago with a department head. The guy is a jerk from way back, but for some reason, he decided to go ballistic on my supervisor, then made the mistake of trying to get in my face. I really don't care what sort of issues he has, let him know that, and went straight to upper management (who's response was "He's just a big baby"). He carried on for a few days, in such mature ways, like saying things loudly when I was in the area, but he hasn't said a word directly to me since. Absolutely no time or interest for such things. Besides, my supervisor tried to bury the hatchet, and he got all flustered, macho, and went into flight mode.

Connie, that purse is gorgeous! I'm so picky about my models, I won't even use most of my own stuff, but that one is flat-out good modeling. How long did it take to make that? As a matter of fact, I need to check whatever box that is, so I get notifications on when you have new products in the store. Good stuff isn't easy to find. Besides that, we all know you were just feeling good about having finished something, and it went through testing so fast. ;)

She's going to have Shrimp that day!

I almost lost her a year ago because she had an infected tooth but due to my being off on disability at the time and barely being able to keep a roof over my head I couldn't afford to have the tooth pulled and I was facing having to send her over the Rainbow Bridge :(.

However,  thanks to a very generous stranger in Eastern Canada who stepped in and paid $700.00 for her surgery, she is now mostly toothless, but she's also no longer in pain and able to eat.

In the last year her health as declined a bit. She now needs a pill for her thyroid everyday and a potassium supplement, in addition to her high blood pressure pill.  She is in early stages of renal failure, but so far it isn't affecting her in a hugely negative capacity.

Ideally she should be on a renal diet, but she won't eat the food.  So my vet and I agree that it's best to just let her eat what she wants to eat, at least she is eating and gaining back some of the weight she has lost, rather than fight with her to eat something she doesn't like and starve herself into losing even more weight.
She still runs around like a kitten at times, and loves tormenting her baby sister.  And she is such a love bug.  If she had her way she would only be down on the ground to eat and go to the bathroom, all the rest of the time she wants to be in my arms.

Cats certainly have different tastes: mine just look at shrimp like it some sort of alien thing. Sardines are good, salmon is ok, tuna once in a blue moon. Chicken seems to be the favorite here. Beef... not in a million years. Pork, even in good old Super Supper, makes them do that 'bury the stuff' thing.

Chynna has never been a picky eater. She is one girl that absolutely loves food!
However, she had most of her teeth removed last year.  She still has all of her little front ones, one incisor and a few small back molars.  But she's a "chewer" and has always chewed her food instead of gobbling it down.  So her lack of teeth has been hard on her ... and me. It took me about 3 months of spending about $60.00 per month on various types of canned food to find ones that she would eat.

When she had all of her teeth I would sometimes cook up a chicken breast or a steak and she would end up eating half of it!!  Now she can't eat that because she can't adequately chew it, even if it's ripped into small pieces.

Shrimp is soft and easy for her to chew. Not ideal for her kidneys, but.....

That's another thing! Some cats are chewers, and some are gulpers. Jackie Chan will swallow anything whole, even when I buy the dry cat food that's deliberately big to make them chew to clean their teeth.  Makes you wonder how he doesn't choke on it. LOL

My one kitty is a gulper. I have to watch him with toys, because he will swallow them whole, thinking he is eating something good. He likes to swallow his dinner whole, and then puke it up on any convenient carpeting.

LOL

My youngest cat, Abby, is like that sometimes. But I figured out why she does it!!

She is usually a nibbler and will only eat dry food, but instead of eating a healthy portion all at once, she prefers to have a few bites here and there during the day.
Occasionally I will hear her at the food dish practically inhaling the entire bowl of food!  Then a few minutes later she promptly regurgetates it on the floor, followed by another throw up somewhere else, which usually consists of a hairball!  So her occasional Bulemic episodes are her way of getting rid of hair balls.

I changed her to Purina Cat Chow hairball remedy and her instances of vomiting up her food have decreased probably by 75% or more. I used to find piles of expelled food every couple of days, now it's less than weekly.

scanmead ( ) posted Fri, 01 May 2009 at 2:27 PM

If you want a hairball production plant, an angora is the way to go. My Lily seems to have no limit, although, if you brush her, you get next to nothing, even with a very fine comb or brush. That hair is also the absolute best for getting all over clothes, furniture, and in your nose. Think I'll switch from the Senior Purina One to the Hairball formula and see if that helps. (She's also one of those who leaps backward after coughing one up... as if someone else plopped it under her chin.)

Warning: Total Gross-Out

The worst thing I ever saw was after a now-gone kitty who would only eat on top of the fridge, slammed her food, then puked down the side of the fridge. I got there just in time to see the coonhound licking it up like ice cream. ewwwww.... I just turned around, looked the other way, and tried to keep my own stomach down.

Happy beleated birthday Connie!  (yes, I'm always late...sigh...)

Two of mine throw up often because they gobble their food down too fast.  I think Leftie just swallows his whole and doesn't even bother with chewing.

All of mine turn their noses up at chicken, turkey and tuna, yet they'll beg for mashed potatoes.  Sometimes I think I have the world's weirdest cats.

I love all the finnicky eater kitty stories here :)
Tigger was a gobbler, unless you give her minced patee-like kitty food, then she would lap it up. Never liked the sliced stuff. And she loved FrenchFries.

Bubba with all his 22 pounds of one huge cat is a very gentle eater, and takes his time. It's funny when I give him a treat, he is super gentle getting it out of my hand. When he plays, he's not so gentle. He could never figure out if shrimp is something to eat or something to play with. Gets all excited about it, bites it couple of times, plays with it a bit, and leaves the rest. He Looooves canned corn, goes nuts over it.

Little BriBri, so far she's not eating anything but cat food. I tried to entice her with all kinds of stuff, and nothing yet. I gave her a piece og ham last night, and she looked at me like... um, what am I supposed to do with this???

Speaking of BriBri (aka. Chee-Chee-Mee)....
OMG, my little baby kitty, BriBri whom I just got about a month ago just gave me a big scare!
I was mixing a cake for birthdays celebration tonight (my setpdaughter 4/25, me 4/28 and my stepson 5/1), so I was rmbling around the kitchen making noise, even had the vacuum out for a bit... when I was done, I couldn't bind BriBri ANYWHERE. I was rummaging and crawling around the house for an hour trying to find her (till I got myself all dizzy and feeling crappy)...

Eventually I hear her meowing... on the ROOF! Somehow, she got into my stepson's room, and the window screen was popped out  , and she got out the window on the roof. She's never been outside!

Eventually I managed to get her back in... but not without getting nice 'tribal tatto' looking claw marks down the full length of my forearms. Lucky for BriBri she's so adorable...

BriBri is sleeping on top of the cat tree, looking like an angel now... the little bratling!

My honey got a good chuckle of it when he got home... I've been nagging him and the kids about closing doors and making sure BriBri doesn't get out before she's used to her new homs... and of all people, she got out on my watch. He finds the whole thing awfully amusing! kitty giving honey her best catty stink-eye look

Oh dear, sorry your nerves had to go through that, but I'm glad BriBri is okay.  What a little stinker!  😄  My cat, Pippin, likes turkey and chicken the best.  He is the messiest eater, too!  When he gets done, there is food flung far and wide that I have to gather back up.  I actually had the vet look at him to make sure there wasn't anything wrong with his teeth, but they are fine.  He's just a little slob.  LOL  My dog, Chaco, on the other hand, just completely inhales his food.  It disappears in seconds without a trace left.   Speaking of....it's time to feed the dog!

scanmead ( ) posted Fri, 01 May 2009 at 7:14 PM

Yeah, what's with the messy-eater kitties? My Brie has to have a bowl, so I don't have to pick up bits of stinky, slimy cat food all around her dish. Love kitties, hate the smell of what they eat.

Mashed potatoes and corn are new ones! Vegetarian kitties!!

Oh dear Connie; cats, who'd have 'em?  Crazies like us I'm afraid lol.  A nice(?) piece of classic cat behaviour from BriBri, you were out of your mind with worry while she was perfectly happy!  Mom will rescue me, it's all alright!

We like to keep our cats in at night as we live on a main road, Sophie likes to stay out at night.  She has perfected a routine of purring and getting close to us but just out of reach.  If we try to grab her she bounces away, finds somewhere inaccessable, then rolls over showing her tummy!  Sophie comes in when she wants to . . .

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Sat, 02 May 2009 at 3:08 PM

They are just adorable!  It's sort of like, "a home isn't a home without a cat, or two or three or so..."

It's wonderful to see BriBri coming out of her shell and picking up on what's going on around the house, who is whom, and everyone's routined little by little.

Now that she's getting less and less spooked by things, she's starting to be more and more personable, and learns fast. I think she may be able to learn some tricks eventually. She already knows to come ewhen mommy is calling or whistling, she already knew "No", she's learning hop-hop, to come and jump up...

This morning we played a bit, then she streached out next to me and took a nap. That's the first time she did that.   She's going to be a little lover!

Connie,

Please go to your Dr. appointment.  Early detection is so important.  I'll pray that everything goes well for you.  😄

I'll go, I'll go!  It's tommorow at 12:15.
Yay, my honey's insurance will add me on his policy, even thought we're just engaged, and not married yet. That's good news. This means if anything major happens, I'll have at least a bit of protection.

My honey knows I'm the type that takes care of everyone else (including him) first, then I don't leave anything for myself, so he's good at taking care of me when I need something.

He's truly a wonderful Man :)

Good news on the insurance!  Glad you're seeing the doc and taking care of yourself (yeah, it's no fun, but we have to do it.)

I'm having fun with an allergy flare-up.  Itchy/sore, red, swollen eyes. Maybe all the ash in the air from the Santa Barbara fire.
