Normally, I wouldn't really post anything like this. But here's the thing. My ex wife (yes, we are friends, but it took a few years and I'm still in love with her, so go figure) asked me to fix a photo of her as a teen, because her mom is making a family album and she wanted to send it to her for mother's day. Well, as you can see from the original, it was old, faded and damaged. Rather badly damaged. I put quite a few hours in on doing the retouching, and I'm pretty proud of the results. So what the heck, thought I'd post it here. It was a harder retouch than I normally tackle, made harder by the revenants from old 70s textured photopaper. I'd really like to shoot whoever thought textured paper was a good idea for photos.

Very well done. Her mother should be pleased with the results.

Really nice work there... I did a bunch of old, faded, scratched, covered-with-hairs 35mm slides for my girlfriend's mom a while back, and my mouse-hand still kinda aches from all the clicking.

Funny, I never call anyone by my exs' (yes, that's plural) names. Unless I'm really, really mad at 'em.

Man, I wish I could get a tablet. Heck., I wish I could get a decent computer instead of this retarded one I got ripped off for. But heck, I'm doing good to get food, and I have food stamps. I can't even get my heart meds filled.

Very nice job.  Had t do the same thing for one of my folks' wedding photos for mother's day.  Personally, if my Ex asked me for this...well...I am not sure I could have been such a big man...I guess I COULD remove the horns and forked tongue if I really tried.  :glare:

I tend to call women I'm with 'baby'. That neatly avoids the whole name problem.

i have to agree with Lucie, doing such a great job with a MOUSE...

i forget sometimes how much i rely on my stylus until i get on someone else's system and have to move around with a mouse!!!

Great job! And without a pad - ugh!

My first Photoshop job was by accident - I started working in a lab that just lost its retoucher - I was the only one who knew anything about PS - and all I'd done at that point was take a 2-day crash course! Also did it all with the mouse (rubber ball bouncing around inside and all), and had a bunch of them come through with textured papers as well - I could have cried!

I have a coupla great retouching stories, but this one took the cake:

And older Polish woman came into the lab with a fragile picture in the little frame - her mother taken before WWII. It was the ONLY pic she had and was terrified of taking it out of the frame, but it was damaged and she wanted it cleaned up.

I got her to leave it with me and VERY carefully took it out - it was packed pretty tight in there BECAUSE THERE WAS ANOTHER PIC OF HER MOM BEHIND IT!!! Apparently it was her mother and a friend, both young (maybe early 20's?), leaning against an apartment wall outside, smoking cigarettes.

It was also pretty badly damaged by years and humidity - didn't tell the boss about it (I knew he'd be out on vacation when she came back) and didn't tell HER. When she came back, I presented the one she knew about, and slowly pulled out from behind it the second one.

She couldn't stop crying - and NO I didn't charge her. It just felt too good to do it for her, and I almost cried with her by the time she left.

Anyone got any good stories like that to share?
