Subject: Vue 7.4 and layers???

thefixer ( ) posted Tue, 19 May 2009 at 11:27 AM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 1:42 PM

Before I rant off at Vue I need to check if anyone else is getting this or if it's a tick box I need to tick or untick!

Start off with 1 layer, add a few things then click on new layer.
Now I have 2 layers, if I select the object in the new layer, my first layer disappears!!!???
Now having the first layer vanish like this isn't good for posing my item in the second layer is it!!

Any ideas anyone?? or is it another bug?

By the way, it makes no difference whether the first layer is open [eye], locked or sleeping! [closed eye], it still vanishes!

thefixer ( ) posted Tue, 19 May 2009 at 11:36 AM

This happens even if I have the second layer empty, just clicking on the second layer makes everything in the first layer disappear, even the camera!
Impossible to work like this!

Hi :-)

Vue7.4I Beta build 42554 here on PC. Same happens when the second layer is selected. At least, the first layer disappears from the view-windows. It's still there in the preview and when it's rendered. If I deselect the second layer, I see all objects, at least until I add objects in the second layer. I just loaded a tree in the second layer - it loaded outside the (unmoved) camera field...  If I then toggle between the two layers, I only see the objects in the selected layer in the view windows. the preview shows everything. Was this the same in Vue6? Doesn't seem very friendly to setting up a scene - dunno - maybe lodge a ticket?

P.S. could you try to load dynamic hair in 7.4, please? I get crashes every time by loading, and up until now, nobody has answered my thread. Hmmmm..... am I the only one that would like to use Poser shaders????

Rob

I don't seem to have that happen

Screenshot shows I have 3 layers and I can click randomly on any of them without the other(s) vanishing

thefixer ( ) posted Tue, 19 May 2009 at 12:33 PM

Gill, are you only on one view there?
Try it with 4 views just in case that's part of the problem. I had a pm from someone who doesn't post on the forums and he too is having the same problem!

**TH: ** I always use Poser shaders, always!!
I never use dynamic hair though, I do have one [LOL] so I'll try that just for you!!

No, it's 4 views - I just cropped the screenshot to show only relevant stuff.

I don't have the beta update like TH - mine is 7.40-04 build 42554

thefixer ( ) posted Tue, 19 May 2009 at 12:37 PM

Never mind Gill, I justy tried mine with your view and I get the same problem.
I've raised a ticket seeing as 2 others so far have this problem that I know of.
Thanks!

*Afraid you do Gill [LOL], that is the Beta update and it's the same as mine also.
If you look at the first line, they put it there in small writing!!

I misread TH's post - I read it as 7.41 not 7.4I but yes, you're right.

Wonder why it works ok for me then?  Vista 32bit home premium if it's of any use.

P.S. Thanks, thefixer, for your confirmation...... how about it? do you want to lodge a ticket about dynamic hair?

It sounds like a 64 bit issue then!

I have the same problem with Vue 7.4 Complete on Vista 64, so its not just Infinite

thefixer ( ) posted Tue, 19 May 2009 at 1:35 PM

Please post a ticket at e-on, the more that do, the quicker it will hopefully be fixed!

ok. looks like an issue with 64-bit (maybe).... I've lodged a ticket.

Rob

P.S. How does it work on Apple?????? - (please answer, somebody!)

Rids ( ) posted Tue, 19 May 2009 at 2:02 PM

I've posted a ticket for 64 bit version of Complete.

I quickly tried 2 layers with 1 tree in each layer. I can only see one tree at a time. I think i will go back to the last version until they fix some of the bugs.

Rids ( ) posted Tue, 19 May 2009 at 3:06 PM

 Just got this from Lee...

"Thanks for the report - I'm forwarding to our development group"

So at least its getting to where it needs to go 👍

craftycurate ( ) posted Tue, 19 May 2009 at 6:05 PM

I don't get the layer bug as described on XP 32-bit

Miska7 ( ) posted Tue, 19 May 2009 at 6:28 PM

In Vue at the top pick Display -->Current View--->and uncheck Show only objects from active layer. This fixed the problem for me.

Rids ( ) posted Tue, 19 May 2009 at 8:19 PM

Must be an Infinite only feature because I can't find it in Complete.

chippwalters ( ) posted Wed, 20 May 2009 at 2:22 AM

Yep, I don't see it in Complete either. It does show up in Infinite though. Perhaps clearing out your prefs file might help and restarting? Maybe it's a setting bug left over from an old prefs file?

thefixer ( ) posted Wed, 20 May 2009 at 2:23 AM

Just had a reply from e-on tech support [Lee Randall].

He/She says it is a known bug in 64 bit systems and will be fixed in the next update!!!

I could say something but I won't..................

Rids ( ) posted Wed, 20 May 2009 at 3:53 AM

Question is, will that be when this beta release becomes gold or are we talking about a whole new bout of development?

thefixer ( ) posted Wed, 20 May 2009 at 6:48 AM

Had another message from Lee Randall, it's a tick box that needs to be unticked!

Display...current view....show only objects from active layer.

Untick that and you can see everything..............phewwww!!

What a relief [LOL].

Cofiwch Dryweryn.

Rids ( ) posted Wed, 20 May 2009 at 7:37 AM

I however seem to be going around in circles, Lee tells me its under viewport display options and I keep saying its not there in 64 bit Complete. I've added a screen grab to my ticket but as to whether it will now even be looked at I am not so sure.

thefixer ( ) posted Wed, 20 May 2009 at 10:32 AM

Rids, did you try the path I've put up there??

Top menu bar:
"Display...current view....show only objects from active layer."

Injustice will be avenged.
Cofiwch Dryweryn.

Rids ( ) posted Wed, 20 May 2009 at 10:42 AM

Yeah, its not present in Complete, only in Infinite.
They have finally accepted that it is a bug in the 64 bit version of Complete now and say it will be corrected in the next release.

thefixer ( ) posted Wed, 20 May 2009 at 10:48 AM

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

Jeez, that's a bummer!!

That's one thing I'll never understand, it's basically the same kit with some functionality taken out so how can it not work right in one and not the other!!

I had this bother with Vue 5 Esprit, that was a total bag of shit. After some, shall we say discussions, they offerred me a deal on 5 Infinite which was way, way better than Esprit, I never could figure why!!

TH: On the dynamic hair issue, just had a mail from Lee Randall to confirm that he/she was able to duplicate the crash each time so it's been passed to the development team!

Cofiwch Dryweryn.

Rids ( ) posted Wed, 27 May 2009 at 8:22 PM

Bug has been squashed in the latest update for Complete 👍

TH ( ) posted Thu, 04 June 2009 at 4:33 PM

Let's forget dynamic hair. E-on has replyd to me that they've fixed the crash, but Poser and Vue have different render engines. Because Poser has a scanline renderer, it can interpret dynamic hair. Vue has a different render engine. Therefore we cannot expect realistic results. OK, if that's the way it is,..... why did e-on say that they can import Poser dynamic hair?
