How does one get an URL to start a blog -- There is so much information about it , I am confussed. Where do I go -- what do I do and so forth.  I like the nitty gritty of it in steps from start to finsh -- like step 1 then step 2 -- I can read things till I am blue in my face, and not understand nothing -- I am a listing step by step person.

The term really refers to two different activities.  Some blogs (the big ones)
are effectively daily newspapers with a personal flavor, picking up on news
and events in the real world and adding comments.  These big blogs often
have advertising on the sides, which makes money for the author. 

The little ones are just a place to say whatever you want to say, or to show
your artistic output in an organized way, or to store your scientific findings
where other scientists can comment on them, etc, etc...

here's an example of Blogspot, which I was using, but haven';'t in awhile.
